Good Morning Cruise Critics welcome to day 4 of our Dawn Cruise to Canada and NE..

As the pictures will show we sailed in heavy fog all night into the fogged in dawn 🙂 this morning.. fog horn blowing every minute or so it seemed all night..

Picking up on last night, we thoroughly enjoyed the acrobatic show last night, pictures posted last night. We also enjoyed Los Lobos for dinner. All the food was amazing and the table side guacamole was outstanding. Definitely going back there.

We again made a small donation to the casino college fund then about 10 retired for the night to be lulled to sleep by the fog horn.  We eventually were able to ignore it and get a good sleep.

Early rising to a fogged in balcony, we had an express breakfast at O’Sheehans and are enjoying the quiet in the grand atrium.

Todays excursion is Fundy Fun Race starting at 1pm with our arrival of 12pm or so unless the fog hampers our arrival.

Dress warmly as it is obviously very damp and cold at the moment. Mrs S is cursing me for bringing her to the north after the winter we had.  We keep joking that Winter is Coming in our best Game of Thrones vernacular..

The Grand Atrium has a nice map with our route and some Dawn data..

See everyone later in St John...

Good morning ... I see the Dawn & you safely arrived into St. John, engine stopped & docked behind the Grandeur of the Seas.  Have a great day !

I assumed that ship's satellite WiFi is working to the best of its ability & that you are able to post & upload some pix to keep all the CC pictorial addicts happy following along ... let us know if you find free WiFi inside the cruise terminal and/or nearby.  Bar Harbor is another challenge for those on T-Mobile or Sprint networks for coverage, not even on the newer/est iPhone X, et. al.

Morning Mking and Lupush!

as you noticed we are dock but still in the process or being tied off.

I will check for free wifi. The internet onboard has been good, I am able to stream youtube vids.  I am beginning to think CC is a problem with having to use our browser on IOS, have to load cc then login which is another loading of the same page. Very clunky and outdated.

Oh well , life is good even if the weather leaves a lot to desire.

They are using the crane in the pic to hoist a gangway..

Grandeur is off in the distance as everyone que’s ( as the 4 british ladies near us called it) to be the first off the gangway!

Good Afternoon Critics, just returned from a very soggy afternoon in St. Johns New Brunswick. We had a 1:20 PM Fundy Fun Race Excursion, which was essentially a self guided tour of the area around the port following a printed booklet and map of local area sights, most of them were restaurants, stores, or museums. It was nice to have the book to point these items out, but you can get a free map in the terminal and stroll around and find all theses places yourself without the purchase of an excursion.

Saw the Dawns smiling face after leaving the port terminal-

image.thumb.png.891d5a9f641ccaf937e4231b3fdd627b.png

Dawn was docked right behind RCL Grandeur of the Seas, ( our neighbor at home returned just last week from a Bermuda Cruise aboard Grandeur)..

image.thumb.png.cf3696d27d74c8b932d28a05500aebed.png

There are hop on hop off Pink Buses for your independent tours with tickets on sale in the terminal..

image.png.5339142f2326409a8e804fa123c1e381.png

The first stop on the tour was a selfie location at.. ( Mrs. S and I are not selfie takers 🙂  ) Where we did not stop for lunch..

image.png.06180a89ca9f2d62b611801a35dcee3f.png

The area had many older buildings with tons of character that are not found much in today's architecture..

Strong and Free Headquarters..

About this time the rain started to pickup but we trudged onward with the hopes of free canadian pastries via a coupon as part of the excursion..

Ohhh Canada.... The area was rightly proud of their country and heritage..

image.png.fd89edfa4287c6ce005c17cb1e9ada77.png

Further down on the tour we found many little alley ways leading off the beat and path to be explored..

image.png.126cd89b26b4c6aef6c0082884764436.png

Meanwhile the heavy misting rain increased to a more pelting rain, but we pressed onward with visions of delicate pastries carrying us forward when we found another stop on the tour, a historic General Store in the area that now has souvenirs and such..

image.thumb.png.0b9c234914cdc7dcca4209eef4ad91de.png

Across the street there was a Police Museum that we did not venture into however I talked with the gentlemen who runs it and he told me the story of how this town back in the late 60's had 3 of these as their police force and it was always a fight over which officers would get to drive the police cars for the day and the other on foot patrol..

image.thumb.png.13368b095f6fa086fec24e82cd4e43d7.png

We passed a field of budding tulips that are on the verge of dawning ( get it 🙂  ) into beautiful bulbs. The bulbs in our area have opened and fell off already more than a few weeks ago now..

image.thumb.png.1e5bf6a0361c2aa3299e19c2cd312bb8.png

Turning the corner on our search for the succulent pastries we were promised, we came upon one of Canada's finest..

image.thumb.png.d2be901fa28171510ecf73c7b0824247.png

Our next stop was a clocktower near the docks further down the waterfront..

Where I found out where Elvis has been hiding all these years waiting for a Canadian Bus.

He looks good for his age, like a Hunka Hunka Burning Love... now where were we.. oh yeah pastries..

Onward we pressed as the rain increased and the wind pickup up making it miserable to the point Mrs. S proclaimed.."these better be the best damned pastries we have ever had or I will be pissed".. to which I replied, "I bet it is fun to sled down these hilly streets in the area during a snow storm"..I cannot post her reply.

image.png.dd2e291330756d8ca2d6826da7adcc7b.png

Further on we came across some wonderful churches but in the gloom looked more haunted than holy..

image.png.e481f4281cf1274edbcb835db7be1f2d.png

At this point the rain was decently heavy and we were forced to head back to the ship, when we turned a corner and found the promised land..

Beavertails..

image.thumb.png.23905c20931b916ef0a7456a57b85c62.png

Where we had crispy, sweet and savory canadian pastries.. (They were phenomenal to the point we purchased another one after the free one..)

image.thumb.png.c26bb7b0bba3a58535ea18ba954f9a6a.png

After filling our belly's and being thoroughly soaked through we quickly headed back to the Ship, thus prematurely ending our excursion with much more area to see, but we will save that for a return, hopefully drier trip.

Dinner tonight is back in La Cucina for Italian Delicacies.  Yes more food 🙂

See everyone later, wifi permitting..

Excellent live reporting - great pictures - thank you.  Go enjoy a great dinner - all abroad time, to get ready for sailaway ... and, how's that (steep ??) gangway with the changing tide.  Peeking at ship cam again: GOS has left the pier, turned & sailed.

Weather, as forecasted now - improving for the rest of the cruise, you can tell Mrs. S that it will be sun & clouds, almost 60 tomorrow & Thurs and edging toward 70 by Friday - short sleeves weather by Saturday ...  See anyone in that pool, a few souls in the hot tubs only - chair hogs nowhere in sight, last week.

Thanks Mking! Mrs S. Is delighted to hear about warmer temps!

Funny enough there were 3 souls in the pool around noon today and a few in the tubs. Not sure if the pool is heated, assuming not, so they are braver than me!

What's up in SJB this evening ??  Just happened to lookup Dawn's latest/recent AIS location - confirmed by live ship cam - still moored at the pier/cruise terminal ??  Low tide, pax late coming back from shorex or medical emergency, or something else - hope all is well for everyone.

Going to need to make a full speed run to make the distance to get into Bar Harbor tomorrow to do tender - keep us posted, if you can.

P.S.  Dawn's main/adult pool(s) used/supposed to be heated to around 78 deg. F but no longer displayed/shown on Ch. 2 and hot tub temp was blank last week ... folks enjoying it.

Our scheduled departure time was 12 am. We are not sure why it was so late on this trip as there seems to be nothing to do in SJB after 5 pm. We did leave on schedule though at just after 12 Midnight.

Seas are a bit rougher this morning, but the Captain said last night we should arrive in Bar Harbor on time and with temps pushing 59 degrees. We hope so. Being a tender port, I am hoping it is a sheltered Anchorage as the wind has picked up over night and we have seen seas at this level cancel tendering in the Caribbean, so hoping for the best.

Wifi at night as you know is next to useless with everyone on using it. Hoping for cell service for our AT&T phones this morning at Bar Harbor.

In this next, not so exciting episode of As the Dawn turns.. or just Live from the Dawn to NE and Canada, which should be renamed to Semi-Live due to posting infrequency because of wifi.. we had just returned wet and cold from our day out in St. John's, where a check of our pedometers let us know we had walked just under 5 miles when it was time to get cleaned up and ready for the evening.

We began by strolling the Grand Atrium and looking at all the sexy.....watches on display at..

Thanks SeaDog!  I am excited to be on the Dawn; however, I mixed up my next two cruises!  My Canada/New England cruise in September is on the Escape.  I won't be on the Dawn until we go to the Greek Islands. I'm still following along to learn about the ports and the ship...just not these ports on this ship, LOL!   Oh the joys and conflicts of having more that one cruise booked - a situation I love to be in!

"Kids Casino" is the BEST description of the arcade!

Showed my son your photos, and he was fist pumping to see all of his (expensive) favorites!

Even with your wifi issues, what you have been posting is wonderful - Having indulged in many beaver tails in my life, I know the love only sat, carbs and more fat can bring. Some people cut them up and put them in hot chocolate (those crazy canadians).

Enjoy day 5....it looks like the sun finally made an appearance...Amy
