Rbullenut Posted May 24, 2019 #9 Share Posted May 24, 2019 He pulled up a chair by our family in the Windjammer for breakfast. He was totally interested in how our cruise was going. The Bon Jovi cover songs were awesome. I don't think I can tell you another captains name. But I will always remember Marek Slaby. 1

That NYE evening things were warming up nicely in the atrium when Capt Marek and his teenage daughter took the stage with the band and let it rip. It was a highlight of the evening. Looking for ways to improve the experience I honestly dont recall my trip being significantly impacted by the guy on the bridge Captain Marek is very personable with a great sense of humor! He does a mean Mustang Sally rendition (I think there's a UTube video) and is just generally a lot of fun. We were invited to eat dinner with him in Giovanni's on the Vision last year and had a great time! His crew all seemed very happy as well which always makes us happy!
Sobro Posted May 24, 2019 #17 Share Posted May 24, 2019 I wonder if he's still playing crew vs guests in pool volleyball. We played them close but their experience (and sobriety) overcame our best efforts. The teams were introduced by first name and as we were in line disembarking three days later, Captain Marek was thanking everyone for sailing with Royal. He remembered and thanked me by name. Pstreet12 Posted May 26, 2019 Author #21 Share Posted May 26, 2019 The crew truly loves him, and that means they love their jobs--that has an impact every day in everything you do. We've had lots of crew members tell us what a difference he makes in their lives, and they, of course, make a difference in ours. The fact that he's fun and interacts with the passengers makes it more fun, also. I would always choose his ship over another if it's possible to do so.

Brit-Cruiser Posted May 27, 2019 #23 Share Posted May 27, 2019 I guess it's horses for courses, but we would rather not sail on a ship where Marek is the Captain. Once was enough.

I think most who are questioning how a Captain can make someone's cruise any different point to this - it's just some staff members' other talents, in this case it happened to be the Captain. It wasn't the Captain's ability to drive the ship or some other bridge related duty that made it special. Biker, who's only memorable staff member ever was Topi.
