Have you experienced being crumpled in cruise?

My last trip to Lakshadweep island on Kavaratti cruise, left me crumpled. With too many people always rushing towards the exit gate, when we had to offboard the cruise to head towards any island.

Go for a smaller ship or one that has longer in port so that you can let the rush go and then get off at a leisurely pace.

If you want to/need to be first off, being "crumpled" [love the term!] does happen. If you can wait until the first rush of people leave the ship, it's usually not too bad. In ports like Cozumel, that funnel through a building on the way out, it can be overcrowded; in other ports it's not so much of a problem.

It was more to o with Indian culture also where people are always in hurry and want to reach the gate first. but overall it was disgusting to bear that jostle  ... regards, Devansh Chaurasiya

Being crumpled (also love the term) is generally a problem of one's own making.  Consider practicing what I like to call, "crowd avoidance"  although I guess "crumple avoidance" might be an appropriate term.   When others are "rushing towards the gate" you should be relaxing in a comfy chair, deck lounger, etc.  Once that initial rush is over you can calmly exit the vessel without being crumpled.  And it is the same on the ship.  Consider that if the Lido buffet opens for lunch at noon, there will be a crowd for the first hour and you might be "crumpled."  So when most are waiting in queues, crumpling (do love that term) each other, etc., you would be relaxing in your deck lounger with a good book (possibly about anti-crumpling strategy).   Perhaps an hour later the queues will be gone, the largest passengers will be stuffed, and then you can simply go to lunch without being crumpled.

Out of sheer curiosity, I  opened and read the thread to ascertain the meaning of "crumpled" - had never heard the term used in this manner prior to these posts. 

Never had a problem on cruises - some concerts were a different matter. Definitely "crumpled" ... severely.

Like a previous poster has said, if we don't have a shore excursion booked, we simply have a relaxed breakfast, a walk around the outer decks of the ship, stopping to watch the hordes of people getting off, then make our way to the gangway to go ashore.  If you're taking a ship's shore excursion, you will be with the group as you leave the ship, being somewhat crumpled.

Simply don't try to be "first off".  If you wait 30 mins, the crowds will die down...and it's more relaxing!

The “first off” mentality is the problem.  There is a dual effect:  first the sheer numbers involved, then the mentality of those making up the numbers -  people who want to be first will tend to push more than those who are more laid back.    Virtually every individual among the first hundred getting off the ship will be trying to be the very first;  while each member of a group of a hundred getting off fifteen minutes later will be much more inclined to let the person next to him go ahead.

Thanks, I do exactly what you told but learned it late. I love the way you have added the fun element while explaining the anti crumpling strategies. You must be a travel strategist for sure.
