RCCL seapass card and cellphone

Hi.  How sensitive are the seapass cards to cellphones?  I am thinking to carry a wristlet on-board.

My last cruise with Princess, I couldn’t carry the card close to the cellphone as it kept demagnetizing the card... then over to customer service to get new card issued.

What ship.   some of the ships are no longer using magnetic cards but are using chips in them.   I don't believe that the chips are as sensitive as the mag strip ones.

The newer ships with RFID cards we haven't had an issue with. Older ships we did have issues with the cards being near the phone

I’ve never had an issue although some have.

The Quantum class ships (Quantum, Anthem, Ovation and Spectrum) as well as Symphony and Harmony all have RFID chips instead of magnetic chips in the cards so are not affected at all by phones being held close by.

 

The remainder of the fleets cards can be affected - although over the last year or so newer magnetic cards have been introduced which have made it much less of an issue than it may have been previously.

Didn’t have the cellphone issue on Princess. It was the magnetic clasp on my wife’s bag that demagnetized the card.

Had no problem on Allure using a wristlet.

I keep the card in a small purse, along with comb, tissues, lipstick, etc....don't usually have my phone around the ship, but do take it ashore, and my key hasn't "demagnetized".

I think Majesty and Grandeur are RFID also, so any newly refit ship is probably converted too.

Bottom line if you see a mag stripe be careful, otherwise not an issue.

I don't think so, unless it has happened in the last couple of months.

They are not.

 

Royal has not converted any of its ships to RFID during drydock.

I have never had a mag stripe card affected by my cell phone.

 

I have had it hit by other things.  Magnetic clasps are a big one.
