Breakaway Needs a Cleaning

Recommended Posts

I cruised Breakaway in April. After 7-8 prior cruises (Escape, GA, Bliss) in the immediate years prior, I couldn’t believe how dirty and poorly maintained it was.

Food spills and stains in hallways, all the time.

Tables not cleared during meal rushes in buffet. Plates and drinks left at hand washing stations (and all over the ship). Buffet spills left on the lines.

In our Haven aft suite: water damage to indoor tables (bubbling/warping ... you can see this in recent YouTube videos). Scuffed up walls. TV stopped working, so we took it off the wall mount to re-seat the power cord (which was obviously loose, and ineffectively taped in place with masking tape). There was about an inch of dust coating the whole back of the television, and it fell off in big clumps. Front bathroom shower ALWAYS smelled like urine (not sewage, just urine), so we didn’t use it. Dirty cushions on balcony furniture.

No, we didn’t spend our vacation complaining to management and trying to solve the ship’s many problems—they obviously don’t have the necessary staff.

Maybe it’s the reality of an older ship—GA, Escape and Bliss were all very new when I sailed on them. But it was sad after I’d talked up NCL to my husband for a couple of years.

In short, that rating doesn’t surprise me, and I won’t be back on that ship.

I thought Breakaway had a drydock refurbishment in 2018.   Really have to wonder what they refurbished with the findings reported.

Really have to believe that with this publicity that the Breakaway will quickly become the cleanest ship in the fleet with more than adequate staffing to keep it that way.   The hotel director is likely working for Carnival now.

Anyone experience otherwise on a more recent cruise?
