Getting to Cunard in Red Hook, Brooklyn

We are staying in a hotel in Tribecca, Manhattan the night before our TA cruise on the QM2. What is the best way to get to our cruise port on a Sunday? Thank you!

Car Service, taxi, or Uber/Lyft.

 

If you can manage your luggage and it’s a nice day, you can take a cab to Wall St Pier 11 and take the accessible MTA watertaxi to the Red Hook pier for about $3/pp.  Great photo ops of your ship from the East River.

If your luggage is too much to carry along with you, suggest yellow taxi, Uber or car service (Dial 7 or Carmel). You can also check with the front desk of your hotel for suggestions.

From lower Manhattan, I second the NYC Water Taxi. Lots of room for luggage, and it's truly exciting approaching the QM2 from the water.

I would be careful to depend solely on the water "taxi" as it is not, it is a ferry service, heavily subsidized and 88% of the users are local commuters.  Yes, it is accessible friendly & there is standing room for luggage, but not racks like airline shuttle rides.  As the popularity with visitors & tourists gained, overcrowding and extensive delays for the East River routes, including transfers at different ferry landings had been a problem this Spring.  

 

Services run on a schedule, every 30 to 60 minutes during non-summer months and every 20 minutes or so - typically with a max capacity of 500 riders; and there are no backup or extra ferries to put into service on demand if there is an unexpected surge in ridership.  Be sure to subscribe to & use Twitter to monitor for service alerts.

We took the South Brooklyn ferry from Pier 11 in Lower Manhattan and really enjoyed it.  We purchased our tickets on the app ($2.75/pp) and went straight to the SB line.  They will help you on with your luggage, if you need it, as there is a bit of a ramp.  One, two, three stops and you are there.  If you can handle your luggage in an airport you can handle your luggage from the ferry.  Agree with frankp01 that it was an enjoyable, and inexpensive, way to arrive.

You can also go from any other Ferry stop and ask for free transfer if using paper ticket or transfer is on the app.

34th Street there is the express Astoria line that the next stop would be Wall Street and transfer to the south brooklyn ferry line. There is also the east side line that makes additional stops to Wall Street and then transfer at Wall street pier. 

 

Your backup can always be a cab or ride share.
