I do think you are making a generalization that is very far from the truth.  We do not smuggle booze on cruises nor do any of our friends.  And we have been on an awful lot of cruises on more then a dozen different lines (including Carnival).

Back before drink packages , I would on occasion fill a large water bottle with cognac before boarding at ports like st Thomas, never have been stopped.

That is absolutely not the case, and it is rather rude to assume let alone accuse "all guests" of any type of smuggling.

I'd point out that there's no reason to "smuggle" onto all-inclusive lines.

 

We've never "smuggled" anything onto any cruise ship.

and in typical CC fashion....a simple and reasonable question has turned into folks getting their knickers in a twist because folks just can't simply answer the question. 🙄

I would say SOME guests on MOST cruise lines smuggle booze on.

 

I don't think those on the luxury lines, where all booze is included bother to do so.

I have a friend that sails on Crystal.  She smuggles vodka  on for "an eye opener" so they don't think it unseemly she has a nip before noon.

Why would she bother? On Crystal you can ask for a bottle of vodka for your cabin. No-one is going to check when you drink it.

It is included and that includes a couple of bottles of your favourite tipples, plus mixers, in your cabin. Not that we took advantage of that, we were never in our cabin long enough to have drinks there, plus there were too many interesting cocktails to try in the Crystal Cove.
