6 to 5 blackjack?

When I was on Koningsdam last year, all the lower stakes blackjack tables paid off blackjacks at 6 to 5.  This was a first for me on Holland America, having sailed in the past few years on Westerdam and Oosterdam, on which all tables always paid the regular 3 to 2.  I'm wondering if the 6 to 5 was a fluke, whether it's been instituted throughout the line, or something in between.  Would appreciate hearing others' experiences.

It was on Eurodam 4 weeks ago too.  I had to play at least a $15 table to get 3-2 bj.

6 to 5 blackjack increases the house edge by 1.4% for a basic strategy player.....pure gouge/greed by the casino.

Most casinos have done this at lower limit tables in Vegas and Atlantic City, most of the bigger casinos have 6:5 Blackjack on tables under $25.  Of all the rules changes they have made to increase house edge, this is the worst by far

Believe me it’s no fun for the dealers either.  This has been in effect in Vegas for several years.  Stats must be showing that it is a good idea for the Casino, rather than discouraging players.

Until people stop sitting down at the table, this will continue. Dockman was right. Walk away!

On Roulette they added a triple zero.  I enjoy playing on cruises but this just screamed greed.  I did not go back and will scratch this off my things to do.

Unfortunately It seems to me that the vast majority of blackjack players have little or no real knowledge of the game resulting in playing hunches, feelings, drunk, and overall really poor skill at the game.....the house edge for a  good basic strategy player can be as low as 1/2 of a percent.....but of course poor play pushes that edge way way up. ..and yes i do understand that many seem to look at gambling (gaming) as fun/entertainment but of course even these folks do want to WIN.

 

The bottom line is with very few exceptions (pro card counters) the house is always going to have the edge as it is their game and their business.  It seems that like so many other businesses these days that the bean counters are always looking for yet another way to squeeze a few more bucks out of customers with little or no concern that their actions will lose them many customers.  They correctly predict that there will be more customers/suckers who will take a seat at the table.  Hard to argue with the strategy as the tables seem to be full and casinos, much like so many ships/hotels/airlines these days are out to wring every nickle  they can squeeze from their customers.

 

The only way this will stop is when customers say NO MAS.  It is after all the customers who ultimately determine the success or failure of most any business.

Dockman is right, most players are clueless.

 

i either play the higher stakes to get 3/2 or won’t play.  I prefer the higher stakes anyway as it keeps most players away.
