Does anyone who has stayed pre or post cruise in Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, or Santiago have a well located, clean reasonable hotel to recommend?  Would appreciate any information.

In BA we stayed at http://www.tanguerohotel.com/en-us and loved it. Very convenient.

In Santiago we are staying at http://travesia-bnb.com/  It gets good reviews.

Both were about $US80/ night with breakfast.

We stayed at Icaro Suites in BA for four nights, then a few days later for another two days.   Breakfast AND self serve laundry.

In Santiago we stayed at an Ibis Santiago Estacion.   It was a good location.  Bus depot and subway are located in the same block.  Why did we stay?  We took the bus from the port...this hotel was around the corner from the bus depot.  Also, the airport bus went from this depot.    We also stayed at two of the airport hotels.   Diego de Almagro Aeroputo (sp) and City Express.  Both were fine, though we preferred the Diego.

Keep in mind when you are in Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay to always pay by credit card.  Foreigners do not have pay the GST so it gets rebated back to you.  When you book, check to see if it includes GST.   I think we got an 18 percent discount because of this in BA.  If you go to Uruguay you also get a similar discount at restaurants when you pay with a foreign credit card.
