eel Posted June 14, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 14, 2019 (edited) We are currently booked on a Celebrity cruise that is scheduled to arrive at 7 AM. On that same day we are booked on a Royal cruise that departs Port Canaveral at 4:30 PM. I suspect we will need to arrive no later than 3 PM. Our plan is to carry our luggage off the ship as soon as we are allowed, go pick up a rental car, drive up to Port Canaveral, drop off the car and board. It is about a 3 hour drive. Assuming we can hit the road by 9 AM, it seems like we should have plenty of time even if we hit some delays or snags. Do you think this plan holds water? DJLDRUMS Posted June 14, 2019 #2 Share Posted June 14, 2019 I see no reason why not, you should be on the road before 9:00am as well, it's very do-able even with enough time to turn in your rental. Go for it !
gadaboutgal Posted June 14, 2019 #3 Share Posted June 14, 2019 Easy, straight shoot drive. We've done it both ways several times. You'll have plenty of time.

I'd take an Uber or taxi to the rental car office to hopefully beat the rush.
Rare twangster Posted June 15, 2019 #5 Share Posted June 15, 2019 (edited) I self-assisted off Mariner in Miami, Ubered downtown, rented a car downtown Miami and was on the Hertz shuttle on my way to Enchantment in PC by 11:40am. That was back when Mariner was in Miami. All in with gas was around $45 I think. That included a stop at Target to replenish sunscreen and other supplies. Rare JessyCruises Posted June 15, 2019 #7 Share Posted June 15, 2019 We did the same thing in March 2015. We even had time to stop at a laundromat near Port Canaveral to do a few loads of laundry.
Rare brillohead Posted June 15, 2019 #8 Share Posted June 15, 2019 Sounds awesome! I would also recommend using something like the app Waze, which will let you know of any traffic problems and reroute you automatically. Some drivers in Florida are... uh... "unique"! It's doable, but Ft Lauderdale to Cocoa is going to be more like 4 hours. I've breezed in and out of car rental places, but some have had me standing around for 20-30 minutes, then an inspection, etc, There will be taxi's waiting right outside the terminal, so that's not a problem, but I wouldn't call an Uber. Security is tight in Ft Lauderdale and they might not let an Uber just breeze on in. I used to work at the port in Ft Lauderdale and have seen people who planned badly and ended leaving their rental car in the pay lot for a week, paying for the rental and the parking fee. But that won't be you. Best wishes.
