ZoeyBarkow Posted June 15, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 15, 2019 Hi all! I’m new to this forum. We are cruising on Carnival breeze at the end of July with our two year old and 4 year old. We have cruised before by ourselves but it has been a while and this is the first time we’ve taken the kids. A couple of questions: -We are interested in in the kon-tiki party boat excursion in St. Thomas. Do they have life vests on board? -do they have life vests on board the shuttle boats? And any other tips/tricks/advice for this particular boat would be fantastic! Thanks in advance.
Mr. Candyman Posted June 15, 2019 #2 Share Posted June 15, 2019 (edited) I believe any vessel over a certain length (I think 15 feet) should have enough life vests for the amount of passengers on board. Coast guard used to do random checks when we would be out on wave runners and friends boats. Edited June 15, 2019 by Mr. Candyman
leaveitallbehind Posted June 15, 2019 #3 Share Posted June 15, 2019 Any vessel for hire - in particular if associated with a cruise line sponsored excursion - would be required to have life vests, as would any vessel used to shuttle passengers to and from the ship. ldubs Posted June 15, 2019 #4 Share Posted June 15, 2019 Huh, where I come from any vessel, whether private or for hire must, have a PFD for each passenger. And, if the passenger is a child the PFD must be appropriate. Those >16' must also have a throwable PFD.

Not to be negative, but want to make sure you are aware of the following description of the excursion you mention (from a travel website): "If I was between 18 and 25 and wanted to party with young girls at a cheap price, this would be the ideal excursion. Going as a family with two young girls, it was a waste of St. Thomas and not family-friendly. Age limit should be 18+ for this excursion and clearly labeled booze cruise. The tour, glass-bottom boat, and beach visit is nothing more than filler for the description of the excursion."

If it says party boat, especially on Carnival, I wouldn’t expect it to be child friendly at all. But, yes, they would have life preservers.
