Luggage on train in sydney

Recommended Posts

The Sydney trains including the ones that operate on the Airport line are purely commuter rolling stock. They have no facilities, racks etc for baggage.  We use them, but you need to get into the vestibule area inside doors where there are a couple of seats and floor space for your bags.

The government should have purchased carriages like they have on the Heathrow Express, room for baggage.

When taking the train to the airport we sit just inside the doors (no stairs involved) where the seats have their backs to the windows and hold onto the handles of our suitcase or put them between our knees to stop them rolling away.

Yes I agree with NSWP the government/RailCorp should have put lugage racks on the airport trains.

You can manage without them but you shouldn't have to given the extra money you pay to use the airport stations.

I personally would not use the bus due the the lifting required and buses for a non local are harder to work out where they go to.

Last time we caught a taxi from the airport in the afternoon traffic to a hotel down near the Quay (near the overseas passenger terminal) it was over $70, that included a toll towards the end of the journey. The train cost about $16 each.

Can u bring luggage on the buses or train in Sydney to go to the airport

We have used the train a few times with our luggage in tow and found it quite easy - both to and from the airport.

Yes, you'll always see many people going to/from the airport stations with their luggage, so it's not uncommon or difficult, just not custom designed. There's always lots of luggage on trains going to/from Circular quay, for cruises.

Thank you so much.

This-is a lot cheaper than the cab.

Depends how many of you there are and time of day and just where you are heading too.

train is about $18 ea, taxi around $40-60 (time dependant) if your going from the airport to a city hotel you still might need to walk a reasonable distance, or grab a cab, from the station to the hotel, so always look at the whole picture.

Of course some hotels have shuttles from the airport which can also be convenient and cost effective.

If you do end up getting the train I suggest going to either end of the platform (don't try and board in the middle with everyone else), plenty of room for you and your luggage.

Good advice.

The exceptions to that rule are Bondi Junction, Edgecliff, Kings Cross and Martin Place where everyone gets on at the ends of the train because they are nearer to the escalators from the ticket hall. There it’s much better to get on with bags somewhere near the middle of the train.

Martin Place also has a lift which Is situated adjacent to the middle of the train.
