Cru1s1ng2009 Posted June 20, 2019 #51 Share Posted June 20, 2019 why do people take pictures of strangers? I think a robe in a food venue is in poor taste as well but I would never think of taking a pic of someone I didn't know. Much less posting it on the internet. Sure the face is covered but wow.

ed01106 Posted June 20, 2019 #54 Share Posted June 20, 2019 Have I? No. Would I? Once again, no. Do I care if you do? Absolutely not. Do I think those who judge others attire are pretentious snobs? Absolutely! 3
Cruiser_1977 Posted June 20, 2019 #55 Share Posted June 20, 2019 (edited) I have never worn the robe outside of my cabin. I have never gone to a spa on a ship. I bring my own attire to cover my swim suit. I have only ever worn a robe out of doors while getting the mail, taking out the trash or getting a newspaper from out front. In the hallways, buffet, pool decks, casino, and any other place without a dress code, I don't care what others are wearing. Do I sometimes see something that has me shaking my head...sure. In the MDR and other areas with a published dress code I certainly notice but again unless it is something outrageous (nudity, profane words on clothing, etc.), I don't care. In my previous example, after a lot of thought on this (due to the plethora of dress code threads), I would not complain, mention it, or the like. I would simply remove myself. I have control of me and that's it. Edited June 20, 2019 by JennyB1977

I've always been kinda too quick to silently judge others. Not on the big stuff. But, like, 'doesn't she know she'd look better if....' Our older daughter (42) really doesn't ever and I'm trying to follow her good example. Not always successful 🙂

Those sleeves don't look any more oversized that what I've seen on some women's coverups. Besides, the sandwiches are bagged and HAL does the serving. So, non-starter there. I don't see what's wrong with the gentleman - the robe is covering him. More so than some of those stupid see-thru/mesh coverups women where where NOTHING is left to the imagination (you can see exactly what bathing suit they have on). If a variety of society in speedo-type trunks and bikinis and various stages of undress bothers you, you might not want to visit any beaches outside of the US. And, if you go out of Port Canaveral and have a day to use, do not go up to the northern part of Canaveral National Seashore outside of New Smyrna Beach - there is a part of beach where you will encounter nude bathers (allowed by the NPS).

Good thing this picture is reflective of all bathrobes and the people who wear them. I didn't know you could order up a bathrobe that isn't meant for someone 6 ft tall with a 40in reach. ed01106 Posted June 20, 2019 #67 Share Posted June 20, 2019 There is a fine line between body shaming and suggesting that not every body style is equally flattered by every clothing style. And different styles work differently with different people. This thread has ventured onto the wrong side of that line.

But it should be appropriate for the venue.

Once I started traveling a lot internationally, I realized that other people and cultures do some things differently (and often better) and it won't cause the planet to shift on its axis. lol, don't assume. I have seen different standards in Europe and the Middle East. Hotels that I have stayed in with spas have had an elevator to takes guests directly to the spa area so they do not walk through lobby. In Paris France, my travel agent who was staying at a high end hotel was told not to walk thru lobby in blue jeans. Standards do very, out of respect for others one can't go wrong by being mindful of higher standards.

Someone here said they have never seen anyone in a robe in the buffet... I have. Even if I was going to the spa, I would go, change there, not walk around the ship in a robe. That was me.. I have never seen anyone in the buffet with a robe on. Then again.. they could have been there, I am just not a busybody that is concerned with what everyone else does, especially when it does not affect me. 👍

(I do bring coverups as well, which is mostly what I use.) But that's it for the robe. I agree with others that wearing a bathrobe anyplace where food is being served is just gross. Last summer on a HAL ship, this guy walked up and stood next to me on the buffet line at lunch time. Gross. I guess I don't get the "gross" reference. If I was at the buffet at lunch I would be wearing shorts, t shirt, sandals. In other words I would be far less covered up than this guy.

I responded that I was the one that said I have not seen them before. Seems odd to take such offense. Considering over 30 cruises and I have not noticed. Again, because I do not really pay attention to other people. Edited June 20, 2019 by Mikew0805
