Butterbean1000 Posted June 21, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 21, 2019 We've noticed that we tend to get sleepy earlier while cruising. I've often thought about taking an afternoon nap, but I am too wound up to sleep or busy doing things. But I'm ready to go to bed around 10pm. We are always up by 7:30am. I don't want to sleep through our cruise. I brought caffeine pills on our last cruise to try to keep me up later. Anyone else?
purplephenom Posted June 21, 2019 #2 Share Posted June 21, 2019 For me, it’s due to dehydrating myself. I’m too busy running around doing fun stuff to drink water. And before I remember, it’s too late. I’ve taken to drinking several glasses of water at dinner and after, and that seems to help. We cruise in February so I’m not used to the heat at that point which just makes things worse.

For me, at home and on ship i stick to my regular sleep schedule that is like 11pm to 7am. Keeping the same sleep schedule can be very important.
candigirl41 Posted June 21, 2019 #4 Share Posted June 21, 2019 I try to take an afternoon nap every day. If I don't I am done around 9:00 pm. I usually only sleep an hour but it makes a huge difference. I also try to drink a lot of water. Candi
Florings Posted June 21, 2019 #5 Share Posted June 21, 2019 I think 7:30am to 10pm is a pretty full day, if you've been in the sun. Eating, maybe having a cocktail or glass of wine or two. Lots of fresh air and activities... I'm the same. Back to the cabin when I get sleepy, maybe read the Funtimes for the next day, and I am out like a rock!

Rare MisterOJ2 Posted June 21, 2019 #8 Share Posted June 21, 2019 When I am on a cruise, that is about the only time I will drink coffee in the evening. I love having a cup (or two) with my dessert after dinner. It also usually helps give me a little extra pep for staying up past 9:30.
keywest1 Posted June 21, 2019 #9 Share Posted June 21, 2019 Love my afternoon naps!! I sleep like a baby on the ship. I'm up by 7 or so and then in bed by 9:00 or 9:30. DH and DD make me stay up or I'd be in bed right after dinner LOL
gnegron22 Posted June 21, 2019 #10 Share Posted June 21, 2019 I thought my wife and I where the only ones that get in early. One of the big reason why we get a balcony to enjoy the late night in the comfort of our room.
jmcancruise Posted June 21, 2019 #11 Share Posted June 21, 2019 My alarm normaly goes off at 2:30 in the morning and I can't seem to change my internal alarm on a cruise. I try to stay up with my hubby but the result is I find I am usually tired quite a bit of the time. Any suggestions?

I do that every cruise and it gives me the stamina for the rest of the afternoon/evening.
TonyinMD Posted June 21, 2019 #13 Share Posted June 21, 2019 I am up everyday at home by 3:30am to hit the gym and then get into work (with my family and work schedule the only time I can get my workouts in is if I get really early). The first 2-3 days on the ship is a struggle for me too to stay up late to enjoy the late night activities. I try and find an hour or 2 where there's nothing going on those days that I want to attend in the early afternoon to catch a nap if/when I can and then down an energy drink or 2 in the mid evening (I don't normally drink them, but I do bring some cans of Monsters and/or Red Bulls). Then I'm normally good to go to stay up a bit past midnight.
nbrgirl Posted June 22, 2019 #14 Share Posted June 22, 2019 Yes, me too! Especially if we go to a later show, I'll find myself nodding off. Sometimes a little nap before dinner helps me.

There is plenty of stuff going on during the day to have a fulfilling cruise. It's not fun to wipe yourself out trying to stay up late only to drag yourself out of bed early in the morning to start all over again. There really isn't much going on late at night anyway. Check the schedule ahead of time. Some comedy shows are repeated at some point during the week at a slightly earlier time...the deck parties aren't much different than the daytime ones, etc. I find that I usually go to bed earlier on a cruise than I do at home. I also wake up earlier. Give yourself a break 😁

Eye mask and ear plugs along with an inside room will help confuse your internal alarm in the AM.

JerseyHorseLover Posted June 22, 2019 #18 Share Posted June 22, 2019 I was a mess on my Alaskan cruise. 4 hour time difference! Hahaha, I was in bed by 9:00 pm and up at 5am the first few days.

By the time you get adjusted you are going back home and then your body clock is messed up for going back to work. Oh well I get through it. crooooze Posted June 23, 2019 #23 Share Posted June 23, 2019 We pretty much fight ourselves to stay awake through the first 18+ Punchliner show. The funny thing about this is that people who never sailed Carnival before still think Carnival is all about “Funship”, with wild parties going all through the night. We certainly have never experienced that. LOL
riffatsea Posted June 23, 2019 #24 Share Posted June 23, 2019 I love this thread!! It is amazing to find out that we are not the only "early birds" on Carnival!! We try to stay up to go to the 18+comedy but usually have lots of trouble doing that and end up at the family friendly shows!! We are up early in the AM and have trouble sleeping late no matter what time we get to bed.

Well, the adult comedy shows usually don't start until after 10PM, most at 11PM. They last around a half hour, so when we see a comedian, we don't hit the bed until after midnight. On casino fare cruises, they usually have promotions or drawings in the casino all evening, have to be present to win!
