Tiger0613 Posted June 22, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 22, 2019 I have always booked through the 800 number. I have never asked for a PVP. I have received an upsell offer on two past cruises. The first upsell was just an email. The second was a phone call and an email. The emails and the phone call were from the same lady. Her title in the first email was "Stateroom Specialist-Post Booking Sales". Her title in the second email was "Stateroom Sales Specialist". I otherwise never get a call, text, or email from any Carnival employee unless I ask for a callback due to a long wait or website problems. alreadypacked Posted June 22, 2019 #2 Share Posted June 22, 2019 Not a PVP. She is, as you stated, from the Post-booking Sales Dept. Sometimes cruise lines need to free up cabins in a certain category (maybe to fulfill guarantee bookings, fix a mistake, or other reasons). They will often reach out to already booked passengers and offer a [sometimes] attractive price to get you to "upgrade" to a different cabin category. Sometimes their offer was great and I took advantage. Other times not.

alreadypacked Posted June 22, 2019 #4 Share Posted June 22, 2019 I believe upsells are the only transactions Post-booking Sales Dept handles. Back in my early days of cruising, they might even call you to offer a FREE upgrade (you'll see members here reference the "Upgrade Fairy"). I got one once! Free upgrade from inside to ocean view!! Back in 2010. Now I think they are only "UpSELL Fairies".

With what you paid for your existing booking plus what they offer for a better cabin, it's usually not that much less than what you would have paid for the better cabin originally. Our last UpSELL offer was a Junior Suite from a balcony on the Panorama Deck. It was $60 less that what we would have paid for the suite originally. Looking at the Junior Suites, it wasn't that much bigger than our Panorama Deck Balcony. We turned it down.
Port of Tampa Posted June 22, 2019 #6 Share Posted June 22, 2019 Hmm not sure I always used to book by calling or via the website and without asking I was assigned a PVP. Been using her lately but do not really seen the benefit.
CheckersMidwest Posted June 24, 2019 #7 Share Posted June 24, 2019 We were assigned a random PVP. Love him, he does a great job. Always gets back to me right away, knows the answers to all my questions, has great recommendations rather it's about the ship or a port. I don't know how we were assigned, I do know if I log into Carnival and look around at possible sailings, he knows. I usually get a call soon after to see if he can offer any assistance. He knows what VIFP offers we each have and the best option for booking.

Yes, they assign you a PVP. I was assigned one a LONG time ago who I never booked with as I was using a TA at the time, but I guess that person left so they assigned me a new one who I use for all my cruises. I was assigned one a LONG time ago who I never booked with as I was using a TA at the time, but I guess that person left so they assigned me a new one who I use for all my cruises. I have been on 9 cruises(all Carnival). My father booked my first cruise. He used a travel agent. It was a group cruise with some of the members of my father's Knights of Columbus council. I was 13, so I had nothing to do with it. I was just along for the ride. I booked the other 8 cruises. Two of them were solo cruises. I always book through the 800 number. I always have a cruise booked. I do mock bookings at least twice a month. I don't log in when I do mock bookings, but I do enter my VIFP number. With the exception of upsell offers and a requested callback regarding website problems, I have never been contacted in any way by a PVP or any other Carnival employee. I am fairly certain that I don't have one. My mother was assigned a PVP without being asked. She has never booked a cruise. She has never paid for a cruise. She doesn't want anything to do with vacation planning. He randomly called her one day. I took the phone and told him to never call my mother again. No one has called her since. Neither of us want or need a PVP. I am fully capable of making and handling my/our own vacation plans.

I started using a PVP simply becuase I had their name and when I needed to book a group he was invaluable to getting what I wanted, rooms near each other, reservations linked, and allowed people to pay themselves without me having to front the money. While it was good for me, it may not be for other people.
CheckersMidwest Posted June 26, 2019 #11 Share Posted June 26, 2019 Agreed, a PVP might not be everyone's thing. We travel a lot and just recently started cruising. I've always booked everything myself....air, hotel, packages, tours, etc. Never needed a travel agent. Our first cruise I booked online. Since we now have a PVP, I just call him. He's free, so why not?!

This a special department that does these upsells. I had the same guy call me twice. I believe that they each are assigned a specific ship or ships. They do not handle regular bookings as a PVP does.....
