Making specialty restaurant reservations before boarding

How do I make dining reservations for specialty restaurants prior to boarding?  Is it done by cabin category with suites being allowed priority, then mini-suites, etc? And what are those dates?

No you go into you're booking and book whatever you want.

Depending on the ship it is usually limited to the 2 main specialty restaurants IE Crown Grill/Sabatini's.

On Princess it is not based on cabin categories.

 

There are limited time slots when you book pre cruise though.

Once onboard you can book whatever you want. Of course the earlier you book onboard the better times you will have. They do have days that book up.

And those reservations require advance payment by chargecard.

 

I have been able to make reservations on the ship which allows me to pay for it using OBC.

Also worth noting....to confirm your reservation you must pay in full in advance and cannot apply OBC to price of the meal.

Another point,  the specialty restaurants appear to have less availability on formal nights. 

We try to get an early reservation (around 5) though we’re not early diners. That usually enables us to have a window table, if there is one. Our absolute favorite is Sabatini’s.

You mention suites. Complimentary specialty dining, such as the full suite first night benefit, can not be pre-booked. You must wait until you are on board. Call the dining line or visit the restaurant on boarding day. No worries, there are tables available. Princess knows how many full suite passengers are on board.
