Eclipse First Timer

Tomorrow morning my 2 boys (teenagers) and I are heading to Vancouver to get on the Eclipse on Sunday.  This will be my first Celebrity cruise, 2nd Alaskan cruise, and I think 12th cruise overall. I usually do Princess and Carnival.  I usually do suites when cruising and try to get an aft.  This time I know I lucked out and got 1663, corner aft, deck 11.  I doubt that my bid for a RS or CS will be accepted since it hasn't been already, which I have very fine with.  Whenever I do land vacations that has butler service I have found that I don't use them much.  Yes when I go on vacation I am very "low maintenance".  So my question is, what type of things do you ask of your butler? Still debating what drink package to get too....I do like a good bourbon. 😀

We enjoyed our first suite, this past Dec, on the Equinox. 9(sister ship)  For us the butler was not needed or necessary.  They will do just about anything for you within reason.  They will unpack or pack for you.  I don't know why someone would want this.  They will book shore excursions, make dining reservations in speciality restaurants, and many other things.  We personally didn't use our very much.  I think because you get the premium drink package for booking a suite, so you will have many bourbon choices.  Our favorite part of the suite life was the Luminea restaurant and Michaels lounge.

Butler will handle your room service orders, pick up and deliver laundry, bring you morning coffee and/or juice, escort you to the reserved seating in the theater on Evening Chic nights.  Need shoes shined, give them to the Butler, button falls off Butler will get it fixed.

We’ve sailed often in Sky Suites and never have seen much benefit in the having the butler vs a normal stateroom attendant. We certainly didn’t miss the butler when we booked Aqua class once.

I agree that the best benefits are Michael’s Club and Luminae. In our experience, if there’s a well-trained, friendly concierge in Michael’s, he or she can do more to make your cruise smooth and memorable. Not all the concierges are created equal,  but some plan special gatherings for suite passengers in Michael’s, take note of anniversaries or birthdays, assist with travel issues, disembarkation, etc.
