St Maarten activity suggestion

We did Maho Beach and a sea helmet dive excursion.  Truthfully St Maarten wasn't super impressive.  The island still has a lot of hurricane damage to it.  And it was very brown - not tropical green - when we were there in May.

There's a new "waterpark" activity thing that is anchored out in Simpson Bay near where the entrance to the lagoon is.  It is called D-Boat.  It looks like fun.  It has slides, a trampoline, floating mats, food and a bar.  Price includes transport out, lunch, soft drinks and full day pass to water park.

Other options include Maho like others have said - but I would go to Driftwood not Sunset Beach Bar.  Or there is also a new zipline right in Phillipsburg - Pelican Peak.

When we went, we weren't sure what we wanted to do other than spend time at Maho.  One of the cab drivers offered to be our own private excursion driver.  We ended up all over the island, seeing some tourist spots and some out of the way spots.  It ended up the best day of the cruise for us and I think we paid him maybe $300 (tip included) for six of us (although that sounds high right now). I'd have to try to find my notes (2016).

We enjoy taking the water taxi to beach,  boardwalk and shopping. We always stop at Juggies- 2 beers and a cigar $5-.

Safe sailing

We are sailing on Royal Caribbean. How / where do I catch the water taxi from there? Do you recall the price? Is there a schedule posted for return times?

When you walk off the ship, you will see the entrance to the water taxi a little further down the dock promenade, on the left side.  It is hard to miss, and you can always ask someone to point you in the right direction.  I don't recall if there is a precise schedule, but the taxis run regularly, so we've always just hopped on the next one.

Where does the water taxi let you off (which beach)? Is it easy to find your way back to the ship?

The water taxi goes to the beach right downtown. You can rent chairs, etc from a number of vendors up and down the beach. There are bars and restaurants behind the beach. This is all on the main “boardwalk”. Shopping is the street behind the boardwalk. Last time I was there it was $7 per person, round trip, as many trips back and forth you’d like to take.

As you appear very aware of alternatives, to fully assist other CC members, could you please confirm the bus numbers, from exactly where you alight the local bus at the cruise terminal, first to Toppers, then to Toppers Restaurant, and the return to the cruise terminal, plus approximate timetables.  This will definitely encourage people to also use local transportation.  Because $2.00 to Toppers, $2.00 to Toppers Restaurant (Kim Sha Beach), and $2.00 back to ship is a steal for the cost conscious.
