Picture-A-Week 2019 - Week 27

Recommended Posts

Pictures taken between Monday, July 1 and Sunday, July 7.

Rules: See above

That's it. This isn't a contest.

All photos taken this week are welcome (not just cruising).

Prizes will not be awarded. Discovering the joy of photography is the prize.

The idea is to get folks out using their cameras for more than vacations and toddler birthdays.

Post one. Post many. Up to you.

Have fun with your camera and share your fun with others!

A lovely, sunny winter's day in Melbourne.

Off I go to the local football oval to see my team, Williamstown Seagulls (blue and yellow) play the Frankston Dolphins.

This is Australian Rules Football, no relation to any sort of rugby or soccer.

The water in the background is Port Phillip Bay, where the cruise ships sail by.

Players flying for a mark (what, no padding? Well, they do have a mouth guard)

A strong tackle applied

One thing about the local game is you get up close and personal to the play. Again, note there is no padding.

I got out for some shooting both on the 4th of July early afternoon, as well as Saturday this weekend, out at my local wetlands...here are a few of the critters captured:

White peacock butterfly:

Least bittern male, puffed up with his wings down:

Red-shouldered hawk flying over:

Smiling alligator, waiting in the middle of the levee for an inattentive jogger or photographer (actually, just joking - gators get a bad rap, and would scurry off into the water if someone approached):

Black-bellied whistling duck flying by:

The lovely female wood duck - not as colorful as the male, but still a nice looking duck:

Last week held the 4th of July and from photos of fireworks, the annual Basque picnic and a few other bits of miscellany, I chose this spur-of-the-moment ISO12800 product shot of a bottle of whiskey. I have been looking for a bottle since seeing it mentioned in an interview with country music star John Rich. Redneck Riviera is the name of his Nashville-based music venue/bar and merchandise lines, including the whiskey pictured here. One reason I wanted to pick up a bottle was that 10% of the revenue goes to Folds of Honor, an organization that provides college tuition to the spouses and children of fallen and disabled service members. That it is also excellent is a solid bonus.
