NancyJewel92 Posted January 26, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 26, 2006 First let me write a big THANKS for Cruise4Andy for his detailed and lively review of this ship. We're experienced cruisers, but the 1/29th sailing will be our first on Costa. The one detail I wanted to check was about the electrical outlets in the cabins. Somewhere in my surfing, I seem to recall reading that a European converter was required. However, I find that hard to believe. Can anyone confirm to me that the outlets are indeed US standard. (I want to be sure we'll be able to charge our cell phones.)
bchbum641 Posted January 27, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 27, 2006 I'm not great with electrical things but in our inside cabin there were no outlet that I could plug my hair dryer to. At the mirror in the bedroom there was 1 outlet. So I just used that one and we also used it to charge our phones and computer. They had a different type of outlet in the bathroom that was for electric shaver I think. We never used those. Hope this helps-- have a great time. joetrizeo Posted January 27, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 27, 2006 from costa's web site "Hair dryers are provided for your use in all staterooms. Your stateroom is equipped with standard 220/110 volt AC current. " unless i'm mistaken 220 is what they use in europe, and 110 is what we use in the USA, so if your cell phone charger/DC converter takes in 110v make sure you plug it into that one ;) -Joe
bchbum641 Posted January 27, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 27, 2006 Sorry - I was meaning my curling iron- I did use the hair dryer that they provided. It was in the top drawer in the stateroom. I had to look for a bit. I expected it to be in the bathroom. Shauna
TravelGuy2 Posted January 27, 2006 #5 Share Posted January 27, 2006 My wife used her curling iron (110V) on the Magica two weeks ago during our cruise. Not a problem!
NancyJewel92 Posted January 27, 2006 Author #6 Share Posted January 27, 2006 Thanks for the info, everyone. Obviously I missed the specs on Costa's site.
joetrizeo Posted January 27, 2006 #7 Share Posted January 27, 2006 thats ok, just make sure you plug it into one that looks like it fits. i think a 220 and 110 have slightly different configurations, but if you somehow smush a 110 curling iron into a 220 socket, bad things will happen :)
JeanG Posted February 1, 2006 #8 Share Posted February 1, 2006 I always bring a power strip with us. This way I can plug in a clock, battery charger, hair dryer, etc. My husband did use the outlet in the bathroom for his razor.
