latebuyer Posted July 7, 2019 #1 Share Posted July 7, 2019 I understand many princess ships go to tracy arm and i'm interested if you got through in may or june as i'm interested going at that time next year. It seems hard to find information if ships get through even though they advertise that as a destination, i understand ships don't always get through. tcdcruiser Posted July 7, 2019 #2 Share Posted July 7, 2019 (edited) PCL usually offers an excursion on Tracy Arm day. You transfer from the ship to an excursion boat (like tendering) and proceed much, much further into the arm. Truly great way to see the geography. Given this is a scenic cruising day many passenger do not realise an excursion is offered. The tour boat then rejoins the PCL ship in Juneau. This excursion likely solves your concern about seeing the wildlife and glaciers. Edited July 7, 2019 by tcdcruiser
Rare Coral Posted July 7, 2019 #3 Share Posted July 7, 2019 Next year - most Princess ships (if not all) are going to Endicott Arm instead as ships often end up there anyway.
Rare Coral Posted July 7, 2019 #4 Share Posted July 7, 2019 If you are doing North Bound Vancouver to Whittier, you will have a long day in Juneau and can book AdventureBound Alaska that is a small boat to Tracy Arm.
disneyochem Posted July 7, 2019 #5 Share Posted July 7, 2019 Yes. We got really close on our Alaskan cruise out of SF on the Grand. And by close, the captain said we were within 0.5 miles! It was great! We sailed on May 26 and visited Tracy Arm on June 1.
Colo Cruiser Posted July 8, 2019 #6 Share Posted July 8, 2019 Can't predict ice flows. In May/June we have missed TA a couple of times because of too much ice but made it many others. If you go sign up for the excursion! Its well worth it!!
Cruiserkenn Posted July 8, 2019 #7 Share Posted July 8, 2019 I have been to Tracy Arm, several times. During the past few years, however, I have been diverted to Endicott Arm (as others have mentioned.). For me, it has been fun to get to see Endicott Arm, also, after having seen Tracy Arm in past years. (I do realize that everyone doesn't get multiple chances to go. I am grateful for this.) . My cruise this coming September is scheduled for Tracy Arm.
