jeannie1962 Posted April 16, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 16, 2004 We are going on the Western Carribean in May. There are some purchases that we are going to look for~hammock~outdoor themometer~outdoor pictures for the walls etc. What has everybody come across in their travels that they feel each port is the best to purchase certain items. We found that St. Marteen was the cheapest for cigarettes (i think 2 yrs ago my hubby paid $8.00 per carton!)and also perfumes were much less in St. Marteen than St. Thomas. Thanks! pazooter Posted April 16, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 16, 2004 Our favorite purchases so far have been onyx wind chimes in Cozumel (about $2.50 each and we bought lots for family) and a Batik wall hanging from Grand Cayman (about $30.00, hanging in our front room). We also bought a fabulous seriograph on board NCL Majesty, but that is another story. gagirl Posted April 17, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 17, 2004 My favorite item purchased in Cozumel was a chess set. It is made out of marble but looks like jade and onyx. Make sure if you plan to get one - you get it as you are headed back to the ship cause it is VERY heavy!! I paid $30 for it. Get lots of compliments on it. Catrin Posted April 18, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 18, 2004 We love our chess set too! It was really fun looking for just the right one.. there are many shops that carry these... all with various degree of craftsmanship. We ended up getting one at the shops near the pier.. it was a few dollars more, but was nicer quality. We have it displayed on a table at home... it is lovely! jemingway Posted April 18, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 18, 2004 We just returned from the western junket on the Imagination and we also found good deals on wind chimes and a chess set in Cozumel. Also found watches that weren't too bad. The kite and flag store in Key West is not cheap, but has many unique items. Turtle related trinkets in Grand Cayman are also nice.
