Apparent problems on the Solstice 7/19

Looks like the Solstice is returning to Seattle after only an hour out of Seattle.  The Coast Guard Cutter Terrapin is along side the Solstice.

Any CC'ers onboard that can update us??

Solstice is moving very slowly towards Seattle at 4 knots.

I did noticed that the Solstice seemed a bit late sailing by my house this morning - I saw it around 4:30 AM, and wondered way it was going by a little later than usual.  The Coast Guard boat is just off the Solstice's stern.  It is just the one CG ship - no helicopters.  Moving now at 4.5 knots.

 

I will only have eyes on it for the next 10 minutes or so, when it will sail past Edmonds WA.  I will continue follow it with the Marine Traffic app.

Just saw this on KOMO news this evening. My husband & other agents did a visitation this morning but no mention of any issues. Said she was on her way back to Seattle.

Solstice continues moving at 11 knots  south towards Seattle (7:28 PM).  CG cutter remains off its stern and now a tug (named Guard) is off the port bow.

 

The Solstice has moved further south, so I can only follow it via the Marine Traffic app.

So...on cruisemapper there are 2 other ships doing things that look different than I expected.  Ovation of the Seas which left Seattle earlier today is really close to Port Angeles.  And it says Millenium is only doing 9 knots.

On board Solstice now. Lost power while we were in our cabin. Maybe out for 30 minutes or so. Just arrived back in Seattle to get checked out by coast guard and then hopefully back on our way.

Did the Solstice dock at Pier 91, or are you anchored off shore?

Looks like the Solstice left Seattle around 1:30 am Saturday morning.  Currently making its way out of Seattle at 21 knots. The Solstice is just now sailing by my house (just north of Seattle) at 2:20 am.

 

What a surprise it will be for any passenger still awake on the incoming ships (Eurodam, Ruby Princess and Joy) as they pass the Solstice on their way in this morning.  So glad it was a happy ending!

Better happening outside of Seattle than in a  narrow waterway heading to a glacier in Alaska.

I had to come here to find out about the Solstice.

 

The report on her on Good Morning America was poor.  No mention of what port she had sailed from, no mention of port she returned to, no mention of how long the power was out.  No mention if she had left to resume her cruise.

 

Thanks to CC people I now know it was Seattle and power was out for 30 minutes.

 

Maybe later someone will know why the power went out.

Maybe someone smuggled a rice cooker on board and tripped a circuit breaker. 😉

Thanks for the updates CC friends!  I couldn't find it anywhere else!  We were on the Solstice yesterday for a tour with our travel agent -- she is beautiful and we wished we could stay on and go with them to Alaska!  Oh well!  we reserved a cruise for later!

It was surreal watching all this happening in real time.  The Solstice sailing by as it always does, then slowing, then just stopping.  My neighbor called me and we chatted about what we were seeing.  Her husband worked in the maritime industry and he observed that he believed that the ship was beginning to drift (loss of power).  Once, then again it looked like the  Solstice was turning, first due west, then south towards Seattle.  So odd to see a ship (any ship) just turn around in the middle of Puget Sound - it just doesn't happen.  Then the Coast Guard ship arrived on scene.  We were guessing that since there were no CG helicopters that it wasn't a life/death situation.  (One thing we have realized living here is if you see a CG helicopter hovering nearby, sadly it is not a good situation).

Finally, the Solstice began to slowly make its way south, returning to Pier 91.  So glad it was a fixable situation, and that now it is on its way to Alaska.

The reason for the blackout was due to the fact that they forgot to pay the electric bills so Miami shut them off remotely. Richard Fain switched off the power and now they  had to go back to Seattle. Sorry for the news but I imagine the outstanding Final Payment would cover this to restore power.  

 

In order to restore power the Coast Guard needs to witness that the bills were paid and they can tell MIami to switch it back on,

 

All joking aside I hope it was not serious.

Back from the Solstice today. Didnt have the internet package so could post sorry.

 

The power outage was an experience for sure. Went out when we were in our room, which was an inside room so very dark! And it was so quiet! We grabbed our phones for a flashlight and headed out on deck. I feel like it took a good 10 minutes for an announcement to be made. But I dont remember really being told what had happened, just that all was now well with the ship but we had to be escorted back to Seattle by the coast guard to be checked out. 

 

That night on the ship was like any other after that point. A few jokes about our cruise to Seattle Haha. They kept us updated about what was going on and when we would be on our way. I believe we left around 2am. 

 

They managed to get us back on track for arrival in ketchikan only an hour late. And then we stayed an hour later than we were supposed to.

 

It was an amazing cruise!
