Need to know how far apart the terminals are at Port Everglades/Fort Lauderdale

We are scheduled to get off of a Princess Cruise and get on a Royal Caribbean cruise the same day at Fort Lauderdale but we do not know how far apart the terminals are.  We are thinking the best way to do it if they are to far apart to walk is do get a taxi.

That would be too far to walk for us with bags.   Plus, Port Everglades is not pedestrian friendly Taxi.

It would depend on which RCL ship for us and where it was docked. Some have berths closer to Princess than others... though we would probably taxi just to avoid all of the traffic and rolling our luggage...

I would play it by ear that day.  Maybe you will get lucky and the terminals will be next to each other, maybe you will need a taxi. 

 

But even if the ships are on the opposite sides of the port and you are the last to leave your ship, and are in absolutely no rush to hail a cab, you will likely arrive at your next ship several hour before you can board.  So don’t sweat it.

No way would I try to walk it.  The port is NOT pedestrian-friendly at all.

Princess is nowhere close to the RCCL piers.  Take a cab or Uber

If you’re at Terminals 19, 21, 25, 26  or 29, you can take the parking shuttle to the midport garage and then to the other terminal.

Depends. If Princess docks at terminal 21 and Royal leaves from 25 you just have to cross the street....

We normally see Princess at terminal 1 or 2.

Good idea.  It would also be good to know what RC ship, because if it's an Oasis class ship, or the only RC/X ship in port that day, then they would probably be using Terminal 18.

We did a BtoB in Miami - got off 1 Enchantment and then had to get on Navigator.  We took a Taxi.  Not because it was far, but with luggage, traffic, and HEAT it was way more efficient and comfortable.  A young couple stood next to me to board Navigator and were drenched with sweat.  I asked if they had walked, and they did from Enchantment.  They thought it would be so easy since it was close - but they said NO WAY would they do that again - LOL!  Highly recommend the $10 for a  Taxi!

FYI - Most here call that S2S, B2B is the same ship.

Princess normally docks at Terminal 1 or 2 which is at the northern end of Port Everglades, near 17th Street. Royal Caribbean normally docks at Terminal 18, which was specially built for Oasis class ships. When a second Royal Caribbean ship is in at the same time they can dock almost anywhere. It’s just too far of a walk in the Florida heat and a cab is the way to go. Some cab drivers won’t be happy about the short ride between terminals but a nice tip helps the process go smoothly.

Plus, they can just circle around and pick up another cruise passenger for their next fare!

Just a tip... make sure both you and your luggage are in the cab before you tell them you only want to go to another terminal.  It is my understanding once you are in the cab they can’t refuse to give you a ride.  

 

Enjoy your cruises!  Back to back on different cruise lines can be a lot of fun, it is nice to experience two different products one after the other!

Agree.

 

There is often a long queue of empty cabs and driver won't be happy that after your cheap fare he will be directed back to end of line.

 

Like the parking shuttle idea better, especially since you'll have time to kill.

Here's a couple of our experiences.

We were on the inaugural sailing of the Allure...we were to board Celebrity Solstice after that cruise.  Before we disembarked the Allure, we went to the top deck and simply looked for the Solstice.  We got lucky! It was just next door.  We were one of the last ones to disembarked the Allure and walked to the next terminal and were one of the first to board the Solstice.  Disclosure: It was an easy walk for us...one luggage each with good rollers.  But as everyone said, it is not pedestrian friendly.

 

The second time, we went from the Independence of the Seas to Royal Princess.  We did exactly the same thing...went to the top deck and looked for the Royal Princess.  We didn't get lucky this time...it was way out around terminal 1 or 2.  We had a few options...guest services informed us that Royal Caribbean has a free shuttle that can take us to another Royal Caribbean or Celebrity ship...but not Princess.  There was also a free shuttle to the parking garage...the parking garage just happened to be next to where Royal Princess was docked.

 

After disembarking the Independence, we easily found the free shuttle to the parking garage.  I politely and kindly asked the driver if he can drop us off at the Royal Princess on his way to the parking garage.  He made a radio call to deviate and told us "no problem".  We were happy...he dropped us off next to the Royal Princess.  (Handed him a nice tip.)

 

Taxi is perhaps the easiest...but as already discussed, the cab driver may not like it.  Let him know and tip him well.

You can also use the one of the various car rental shuttles that stop at every terminal to pick up passengers.  We used to be able to do this...but recently, the shuttle drivers may ask if you have rental documentation.

There is also a free shuttle for crew members...that goes around each terminal...😊...we've known passengers who "accidentally" got on this shuttle and said the driver was really friendly.

Take a taxi.  It’ll be under $20 with a generous tip.  You’ve just spent thousands on a pair of cruises.  Not worth the stress or aggravation of waiting for shuttles to one garage to get another shuttle to a different pier or walking with luggage in tow.

Also, check with the Guest Relations Desk -- or one of the Concierges, if you have 'lounge benefits' -- about getting a 'transfer' to the other ship. We recently followed an RC cruise (Indy), with a cruise on Infinity. Although the Harbor-Master's port info showed the two ships as being at neighboring piers -- it was clearly NOT walkable -- especially dragging luggage!  We had also heard that taxi lines are LONG, and taxi drivers being reluctant to take passengers such a short distance. So, we talked to the Diamond Lounge Concierge, who got us a spot on the 'transfer' bus. It was going to the airport, but they conveniently dropped us off, on their way out of Ft. Everglades!

Distance is just part of the problem (our X&RC piers were immediately adjacent to each other). But there are NO pedestrian walkways -- well, not that I could see, anyway. The thought of dragging our suitcases down narrow roadways, full of trucks, buses, and heavy equipment was SCARY, to say the least!😱

Exactly, and it is close to a mile.
