Refundable vs. Non-Refundable Credits

On my 2 upcoming cruises next month I have a number of different on-board credits.  They consist of:

 

Princess promotional credit as part of the booking

TA supplied credit

Shareholder credit

Loyalty credit

Future cruise deposit credit

 

Which ones are refundable if not used and which ones are non-refundable?

My understanding is that all are probably non refundable.  We just got off Royal Princess.  We thought all of ours were non refundable (that is what personalizer said) but onboard the ship it showed some was refundable.  I hope they are right as we did not use it all up and hope for the check they said they would send us.

TA supplied credit is usually refundable. All the others that are supplied through Princess are nonrefundable.

TA supplied credit, If part of a group booking credit or special Princess/T.A. promo then not refundable, if "payed" for by the T.A. then most likely refundable

See above. If you go to your cruise personlizer and select payments and credits it will mention if they are non-refundable. The Loyalty OBC will not show there. Also, the T.A. OBC may or may not show, depends on how the T.A. obatined the OBC. Your on board account statement will show refundable or not refundable.

As above, if the TA provided the OBC, it's refundable. If the TA used "group" funds, it's not.

Almost the only other OBC that's refundable is the Military/Veterans OBC. It doesn't look like you have that one.

Is it correct that the order in which credits are applied is:

First - Refundable credits

Second - Non-refundable

 

Example:  One has $100 refundable OBC and $100 non-refundable and spends $150 on board.

The $100 refundable would be applied first then $50 of the non-refundable.  At the end of the cruise one would have a credit balance of $50, but it is non-refundable.

Your ledger has a total credit balance to begin with. All expenses are subtracted from the total. At the end you can get a refund of up to the total of the refundable credits. For example my only refundable credit is a Military of $250. At the end of the cruise I can get a refund of the balance up to $250.

With my wife I don’t have to worry about OBC it’s usually all gone as soon as I fill out the health forms at the pier.😳

They use the non-refundable first, and only then use the refundable credits.

We had $950 from TA, $550 from Princess and $100 military. 

Received a check about two weeks after the cruise for almost $900. 

Told DH about $500 of it. 

The rest is in the kitty for our next cruise. 

Yes, they do use nonrefundable first. 

Military OBC is refundable. 

No limit on how much refund you get.

Also, if the refundable is $25 or less, you can request cash at the Passenger Services desk at the end of the cruise.

it is my astute understanding ... that in my not so humble opinion ... that I agree you can request cash at the PSD at the end of the cruise ... and IF YOU FAIL TO DO SO ... that less than $25 goes POOFFFFFFFFFFFFF

In addition to the ones listed above, any adjustments to port fees and taxes are refundable as well as if you prepay for an excursion and then receive onboard credit. That's what happened to me when I booked my last-minute Alaskan cruises this summer. My request for shareholder credit didn't get processed as quickly as I had hoped, so I went ahead and paid a little bit for an excursion. Once on board the ship, I could see the different credits I had--onboard credit from my TA (nonrefundable), FCD (nonrefundable), loyalty (nonrefundable), shareholder (nonrefundable), prepurchased excursion (refundable), and adjustments to port fees and taxes (refundable). I'm getting a check for a little over $100.

i don't understand this part. you get back part of the port fees and taxes just because you book and prepay for an excursion?

You get a small refund of port fees if the port fees end up slightly less than the cruise line estimated they would be. We have had this happen a few times, nothing very large.

Could you have PSD and casino confused? I've heard that anything not cashed out at the casino evaporates

Yeah, this confused me a bit.  We had an excursion get cancelled and we opted to take a cheaper excursion (only thing available) through same provider.  I thought they would refund the difference.  Instead they refunded the larger one as OBC and then charged the cheaper one.  The good thing for us was that we had a large amount of OBC that was supposed to be nonrefundable.  This essentially converted all of our non-refundable OBC to refundable so now I'm supposed to be getting a check for about $1500!  (approx. $960 of which was the excursion refund and the remainder which was originally nonrefundable)

guess i still don't understand. why would booking a shore excursion reduce the port fee and tax?
