Can you just go to the beach on your own?

My family is not into scuba/snorkeling/water sports or any extreme sports. We just want to know from people who have been there....can you just disembark and take a cab or even walk to a local beach for a few hours so the kids can play in the sand and ocean? Any beach in particular? Thanks!

Sure...you can go to Eagle Beach or Palm Beach by taxi or even public bus. If you look through the threads on this board you'll find a relatively recent one about using the bus.

We did it, hopped on the public bus across from the cruise dock, was easy and cheap.

Most definitely!  Taxi's are readily available but we've always just hopped on the public bus.  Once you get off the ship, head in the direction of town, cross the main road and you'll see a bus depot/stop next to the little market.  We've gone to Eagle Beach several times when in port and it's about a 15-20minute ride away.  The beach has nice white sand and pretty little native divi divi trees that you see on the postcards.  You can rent chairs and umbrellas on the beach.  One thing to be wary of is to allow sufficient time for the bus back to town.  One time we waited 30minutes for it and wasn't able to hail a taxi either.

Of course you can...at almost EVERY Caribbean Island!  Aruba is a great place to do a beach day on your own!
