Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted August 27, 2019 Author #52 Share Posted August 27, 2019 The Holland Glacier is the last main glacier that we see on our trip through Glacier Alley . On our approach to the glacier we saw some awesome peaks on the top It's a very impressive glacier ! It's also a very healthy glacier with a robust zone of accumulation . And I loved the blowing snow ! Our last view of Glacier Alley .
Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted August 28, 2019 Author #53 Share Posted August 28, 2019 (edited) After leaving Glacier Alley we entered the Beagle Channel Here is the North side in the no wake zone Note how the reflection of the peaks have been twisted by the wake wavelets I considered this to be a perfect reflection of the sky , clouds and mountains on the North side . vakamalua Posted August 29, 2019 #55 Share Posted August 29, 2019 Great photos! Trying to decide what to do on our port stop in Ushuaia in January. Any info would be appreciated. Did you book the boat tour ahead of time or when you arrived? What was the name of the tour company/boat? How long was the boat tour? Cost? Did you see the small island with the penguins? Did you do any other touring after the boat cruise?
Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted August 29, 2019 Author #56 Share Posted August 29, 2019 Thank you . You can book ahead but we walked up . Here's the company , boat and tour description. http://www.patagoniaadvent.com.ar/recorridos_i.php It was about $ 50 each and lasted about 2 hours . We went shopping after the tour and ate . If you want you can take a cab to the ski lift where there is a glacier which we didn't hike to . We didn't see penguins here because we saw them in The Falkland Islands , Puerto Madryn and on Magdalena Island in Punta Arenas , ranked in that order . Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted August 29, 2019 Author #57 Share Posted August 29, 2019 Bird's Island And we had a great view of our next visit Les Eclaireurs lighthouse . After circling the light house we found some nice color and birds The one with the orange beak really stood out in the crowd After moving a little further we found some great birds - A pair of Kelp Geese The male is on the left with the darker female on the right . A little farther along on the cliffs , we found nesting Rock ( Magellan) Cormorants . Including one with a chick !
Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted August 30, 2019 Author #58 Share Posted August 30, 2019 Our next stop was Bridges Island . There are no bridges on the island but , rather it is named for a missionary namedThomas Bridges . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Bridges_(Anglican_missionary) Our sister boat arrived first and set out for a trek across the island They were on the high point of the island being circled by an aggressive bird We paused part of the way up the hill for a lesson on the flora and fauna of the island The Cushion plant is found in Alpine regions http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cushion_plant Our guide showed us this wild flower and berries While hiking a little further we found this mother bird and her two chicks You can see the city below the plane .
