I understand that there is a bus right outside the Port gate. Where does this bus go?....is it a HoHo type or regular city bus? What is the best way to get to the casino and brewery?

Thanks

Doug

Shuttle buses leave from the side of the cruise terminal and go to the Octagon. I'm not sure where the local buses leave from and I'm not sure if there is a HoHo bus that includes Port Chalmers where the ships dock.

Emerson's Brewery is a 15-20 minute walk from the Octagon. Head down Stuart St to the beautiful Railway Station then left down Anzac Avenue.

Speight's Brewery is 8-10 minutes walk from the Octagon. Head down Princes St then up Rattray St. The Casino is near this brewery, about 3 m i nutes walk away.. Head back  down Rattray St, right into Princes St, then right into High St.

Thanks for the reply......uh.....where is the octogon?

Doug

Right in the middle of Dunedin. It's an octagonal set of streets with the main shopping street running through the middle. The Town Hall, St Pauls Cathedral and t he Art Gallery are all situated around the Octagon.

The cruise ship shuttle buses stop in the Octagon.

When the bus stops in the Octagon, Princes Street is straight ahead, just walk along to the Casino and Speights Brewery, ( turn right at the third intersection on Princes Street for the brewery.)

Anybody know if those shuttles from the port (Port Chalmers) to Dunedin's Octogon are free, or $20 roundtrip (NZD or possibly USD?), or if it depends upon whether your cruise ship pays for it for its passengers or not?  I've read different things on Cruise Critic.  Either way, it's worthwhile, as the public bus is less convenient, but I was curious nonetheless.  Also, if there's a charge, do you need NZD?  I'm not sure I'll have any when we visit Dunedin.
