Resort day at Dead Sea on Friday

Will be in Ashdod on Thursday and Friday on a cruise, ship leaves at 9 pm for Haifa 

will be going to  Tel Aviv on the Thursday 

we have been to Mesada before 

we want spend a day at the Dead Sea , there is 3 of us

looking for different suggest, rent a car appears to be since on Friday car rents need to be back at 1 pm

We had the same problem, but since we were in Jerusalem overnite we returned the car there at lunchtime on the second day (friday)  & went back to Ashdod by shared taxi.

But with a single day that makes no sense.

 

Are you renting for the drive to Tel Aviv?

Do you need a car while there?

Must Tel Aviv be the thursday?

If not, to me the obvious solution is to switch days &  on the friday take public transport to Tel Aviv,. Or overnite ashore (Jerusalem or Tel Aviv or elsewhere convenient), return the car by friday lunchtime in Tel Aviv, & return to Ashdod by public transport or taxi.

As a bonus, Ashdod from Tel Aviv is closer  (40 minutes) and cheaper than from Jerusalem.

ps, an after-thought. Rent the car for 3 days, two overnites ashore, catch up with the ship (& return the car) at Haifa. It's something cruisers have done. There's the risk of the ship not porting at Haifa, but that port is politically far more stable than Ashdod. When ships visit Israel in turbulent times, it's always Ashdod that gets cancelled.

So there's the greater risk of wasted commitments to hotels, car rentals etc due to not porting at Ashdod than not porting at Haifa.

The reasoning was to check out Tel Aviv on the Thursday when everything is open all day long and do The Dead Sea when everything closes for the afternoon
