We are arriving a day early before our cruise. Thinking of using National express to get to southampton  How far is the walk from terminal 3. To the bus terminal. Is it a difficult walk, although we are in great shape we are pushing 80 ?  Any other alternatives rather than the bus?  Thanks.

It's a well-signed under-cover 10-minute walk.

Coach driver loads your luggage, buses are kneeling (suspension lowered to facilitate boarding), most - perhaps by now alll - coaches are disabled-friendly, free wifi, on-board bathroom - all very civilised & good value.

Journey time 2 hrs to 2 hrs 15 mins.

Do pre-book, and allow a total of about 2 hours from touchdown to bus station.

Subject to availability, if you're in time for an earlier bus than you've booked you can switch to it subject to a minor admin. charge (£5 per booking ?), same for a later coach if you're delayed.

Your destination is Southampton coach station.

By train isn't a great option because there's no direct route.

It involves either taking a train into central London (Paddington station), crossing central London & taking a train to Southampton from Waterloo station, or a RailAir transit bus from Heathrow to a rail station on the Southampton line.

Both ways are lengthy & expensive, but useful as a Plan B if other arrangements go belly-up.

Your destination is Southampton central.

The other alternative is  a private transfer - for a sedan that'll cost somewhere south of £100 inclusive.

Journey time about 90 minutes.

Try

www.westquaycars.com

www.aquacars.co.uk

(the above are all based at the Southampton end)

or

www.blackberrycars.com (one of the more-reputable Heathrow operators).

Doubtless others can offer other suggestions.

Thank you so much for all the information.  We researched many of your suggestions and finally came to the conclusion that using Blackberrycars was the right solution for us.  We had never considered a private transfer and if it hadn't been for your helpful information we would not have been able to book a relaxing way to start off our cruise.  Once again...thank you.
