What to do in Gotherburg, Sweden?

We will be in Gothenburg, Sweden, on Sept. 14, a Saturday.  Is there a free walking tour available?  A hop-on/hop-off bus/boat?  Tours off of the Oceania Marina are very expensive.  Any pertinent information is welcome, including a nice restaurant near the port.

Boat trip to Älvsborgs fästning (if good weather). *edit closed for the season it seems.

Depends on which ship you are on and where the hoho buses departs from.
If the hoho doesn't come to the port then there are huttle buses into town.

From Arendal it takes around 20 minutes to central Gothenburg by shuttle bus or taxi. "

 

I think that from Skandiahamnen and Arendal shuttle bus or taxi might be the only options to get downtown.
From Amerikaskjulet you can walk up to Stigbergstorget stop and travel with tram 9 towards Angered centrum  
from there. Gustav Adolf’s square stop is called Brunnsparken.

There will be a shuttle bus option from the port to Gustav Adolf's square. We had one on our port visit there with RCI for a small roundtrip fee charged to our SeaPass account. Use this option as it's the easiest to get into town.

Just checked our berth via the website you provided.  We are on the Oceania Marina, Sept. 14, and will be berthed at quay 710 Roro.  This looks like a very industrial terminal.  Any idea how to get to downtown?  Hopefully Oceania will provide a shuttle bus or something.

It is an extremely industrial working busy port. More than likely your cruise ship will contract with a local provider for shuttle service....probably for a small fee that they will allow you to use your onboard account for. Our RCI ship did.

Get a street map and walk through to the Haga district. Lots of original houses, cobbled streets, cafes and little shops. You must have a Hagebullen,  I think it's called, a local speciality Cinnamon Bun. Ours was the size of a dinner plate and we had to take half of it away with us. A Swedish lady told me about this place and it didn't disappoint.
