Ariel35 Posted August 21, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 21, 2019 I'm doing the inside passage cruise (Vancouver return) at the end of August. Will the northern lights be visible at all? Will they be visible at the end of September too? Thanks!

Qcruise Posted August 21, 2019 #3 Share Posted August 21, 2019 I can tell you that when we cruised Alaska it was the last cruise for the season mid September.....we saw them off our balcony at midnight one evening.....we were the Northern most we would sail.....it was very cool. mcrcruiser Posted August 21, 2019 #4 Share Posted August 21, 2019 We saw the Northern lights on a theatre screen ,at the University of Alaska museum theatre , Fairbanks AK & it was in May . The projection was so real . This museum is not to be missed 👍

bEwAbG Posted August 21, 2019 #6 Share Posted August 21, 2019 I was under the impression that where the cruises go is typically too far south to see them, especially during the summer months when the days are longer. Those who do see them usually go as part of a land package to Fairbanks (inland) for the experience. You need a dark, clear sky, so even on those two days of predicted higher visibility, the conditions would have to be just right.
AncientWanderer Posted August 21, 2019 #7 Share Posted August 21, 2019 (edited) Where there's life, there's hope. Our tour guide in Homer a few weeks ago said they had been seeing them late at night within a few days of our being there. We went out to the deck very late for a few nights while in that area for some stargazing. Skies were clear, but no lights for us.
