Hi all, we are going on the Gem in November and my daughter will turn 10 during the cruise.  Would you recommend buying the bday package or bringing decorations from home for the room?  TIA!!!

HIGHLY recommend getting the birthday package from NCL!  I've had it done for me (from the Casino Department) and it was really such a nice surprise to walk into the room completely decorated with streamers from the ceiling, balloons, a birthday card and cake!  You really don't want to be trying to climb on the desks and bed to be hanging decorations and it will be such a nice surprise for your daughter to have it all set up when you get there! 😁

PS Just google "NCL Birthday Package" and look at the images and you will see what a nice job they do!

Diy. Walls are magnetic, so magnets or magnet clips and hooks will make easy work of streamers or signs. They'll do a bday cake for free in the restaurants with advance notice - so plan for that and decorate while the kid is out of the room.

I did the decoration pkg on Celebrity once, It was nice, and I kept the decorations too. However I would probably save the money and diy. If you tell them like someone said, they will have a cake anyway. Hope it's a great day for your Daughter!

I'll have to go against the DIY because you'll have to find time to get away from family to do it.

Get the Birthday Package from NCL and they'll decorate your cabin while you're out! That package includes a cake!

Have done so a few times! Fun! And surprises!

You can always bring your own decorations and give the steward an Andrew Jackson and see if they would be so kind as to hang the stuff for you.  You're still saving $$ and you don't have to be in the cabin worried if the Birthday Child will wander in.

I did the Anniversary package for my parents on the Pearl. They loved the surprise, shared the cake with their neighbours ( they talk to everyone!), and their room steward was most attentive for the rest of the cruise. It wasn't ridiculously expensive, and it was lovely hearing them squeak with delight when they saw it.

Will they do the free cake if the actual birthday was a week before? My kid's bday is Sept 29 and we're cruising Oct 6.

Yep. My bday was a few days after the trip, and my family arranged for a cake no problem.

My son turns 8 on our November Escape cruise.  He is a huge Minecraft fan so I'm doing DIY.  He sleeps through anything so we'll decorate while he's sleeping.  I'm also buying MC cupcake pics to put on his dessert every evening.  But we are rather low key in the Bday decoration & his idea of a great party includes us jumping out to surprise him,  cake, & a bit of his current obsession decor.
