Italian Restaurants in Boston's North End

Restaurants in the North End are like navigating a minefield. There are some real gems but there are some real touristy dogs (which at first glance look ok). Ironically I think the best restaurant in the North End, Neptune Oyster, isn't Italian at all.

I'm sure you'll get a lot of opinions, but Lucca and Bricco get my vote. Both traditional Italian, Lucca might be the slightly more higher end of the two. Pizzaria Regina isn't my favorite slice in the world but it is a North End mainstay. Mikes Pastry is nothing fancy but is worth the short wait for a cannoli.

Frankly I think some of the best Italian period in town isn't in the North End at all-- for fine dining its hard to beat Sorrelina right off Copley Square.

Hi, Lucca and Bricco are excellent, I also like Limoncello and Antico Forno...both very traditional but yummy Italian food.  And, NO ONE orders desserts in the restaurants and instead like up (as the OP mentioned) for cannolis at either Mick's or Modern Pastry shops (the debate rages on which is better) on Hanover St.   Manga!  Lynne
