Grand Cayman Beach

Looking for recommendations for a good beach location in Grand Cayman?  We will be there Christmas Eve day.

  • loungers/umbrella to rent
  • bathroom
  • food/booze to buy

Hopefully not hellishly crowded and calm enough to swim.

Thanks!

You have many choices easily accessible from the tender piers along Seven Mile beach. Royal Palms is a favorite of many. You can rent chairs and umbrella, food and beverage. Taxi or public transport are options. Swim conditions will vary but usually not rough.

Royal Palms

More difficult to get to but worth consideration is Rum Point. It's across the sound from Georgetown but inside the reef breakwater. You will find a lot of shade and calm water, fine white sand and a peaceful vibe.

We will rent a car and spend our day at Rum Point next January. It's about a 45 minute drive each way. Other options may be available on your cruise, usually by boat with a stop at Stingray City.

It's very easy to rent a car. You can rent from Cayman Auto Rentals which is just a short walk up Church st. north of the tender piers. They will accept reservations but if you are arriving on a light ship day you probably won't need one.

The roads on Grand Cayman are excellent. The island is flat so you will not have any hills or switchbacks to deal with. They do drive on the left so that takes a bit of adjusting to.  The streets around the center of Georgetown including the tender piers are very crowded with pedestrians and cars. Avoiding town is easy and they will give you directions.

We have also rented a car and made the drive. Only difficult part was driving on the wrong side, lol.  We were going to do the same thing this visit but since we are there on a Sunday Cayman Auto Rentals are closed. So you might check since it is Christmas Eve.

I wouldn't class Rum Point as a high quality beach experience, I'm afraid.

For the services you are looking for your best bet is going to be the various facilities along Seven Mile Beach.  There are three currently - all of the have loungers and umbrellas to rent and food and drinks to purchase... Royal Palms is a beach club that also has an adult only swimming pool, changing rooms, end showers.  Calico Jacks/Public Beach is a little more beach bar style.  A new place has just opened called Coral Beach, just north of Royal Palms - don't know anybody who has been yet, but here is their website: https://coralbeach.ky/

Notice from the photo that beaches aren't as deep in the Caribbean as in the States, so all will feel somewhat crowded...only so much space!  Calico Jacks area has everything you're looking for..and you don't need a rental car...hop on the bus..$2.50 pp each way!  Super easy!

Is the bus hard to find?
