Glenndale Posted September 1, 2019 Author #2 Share Posted September 1, 2019 (edited) Noticed there have been a few views. Has anyone arranged a ship visit? There will be a ship visit the day we embark this month. Edited September 1, 2019 by Glenndale
Tigrou Posted September 1, 2019 #3 Share Posted September 1, 2019 Too far from home for me just for a visit but it's interesting that they offer them. Given that 'turnaround day' is already so busy for the crew this would seem to add more to an already heavy workload. Also I wonder if it has any impact on passengers embarking for a cruise on those days.

The overhead on the ship’s resources is marginal, and a lot of lines charge visitors, although that’s usually refunded if the visitor books within a set period. The visits I’ve been on have been from about 10am to 2pm including lunch. Hardly any ship’s crew have been involved apart from security checking visitors on board plus those serving drinks (or food, if lunch is in the MDR rather than in the buffet as it was on Viking Sun in July on a non turnaround day). All the people escorting visitors onboard have been sales staff down from head office so no load on the ship from that point of view. Cruise lines obviously see visits as a worthwhile way of promoting their wares otherwise they wouldn’t bother - e.g. the recent Viking visits in Dover were free and only for Viking River customers, so they were cross-selling rather than trying to encourage new customers.
