Medical Insurance?

My mom may be joining us for a cruise however my father will not mainly due to his health.  Is there insurance that would allow my Mom to cancel her cruise if my Dads health got worse even though he isn't cruising?  Would he have to be hospitalized in order to make a claim?  Also we are from Canada.  Do you have to book flights and cruise together for insurance to cover both?

The OP is from Canada, I do not believe any of the recommendations for US insurers are applicable.

OP.  Many of the policies will have pre existing clauses and cancel for any reason must be purchased within a certain number of days of booking the trip.  I would suggest calling Manulife as they sell travel insurance,

Flights and cruise can be booked separate it is the total $ amount of the covered trip that matters.

Thanks Bob, I had heard from a client a few days ago that at least one insurer that had offered insurance to Canadians had stopped recently.  I know there have been a lot of changes recently. Even Royal had to stop selling direct to residents of NY.

@mattR  I get my insurance through RBC.  I've had to make claims in the past and RBC had been amazing to deal with.  I've never had issue getting reimbursed.  I just buy the annual travel plan now and renew it every march break.

I would call them and see how they would insure your mother's situation. If  it is insurance coverage they offer, then I would recommend them.

Worth noting, I don't bank with RBC for any other purpose, but I am very satisfied with their insurance product.
