Has Royal banned smoking in casinos on all ships?

Recommended Posts

I just read on another thread that Royal is going to be banning smoking in casinos. Hope this is true. Has this been implemented yet? If yes, which ships have they started the ban?

I've heard that rumor too, but my version of the rumor said the ban would begin in January 2019.

No sign of the ban yet, except for those cruises based out of the UK and Australia.

I would be SO happy if they did this. I cannot stand losing all my money on craps and having to deal with second hand smoke.

But really, it's a huge problem because it leaks out into other areas.

On sister brand it seems to have been implemented already, no smoking in the casino of the Celebrity Edge recently

Yes, Celebrity has had smoking banned in their ship's casinos for years, and surprisingly they are still doing a good business.

Hi Bob, I think it’s funny that you call the casino something like .....a smoking lounge that allows gambling...

It's prohibited on all of Celebrity ships in the casinos. Kudos to Celebrity!

Looking forward to Serenade cruising out Sydney...no smoke billowing out of the casino and up through the Centrum (or as Bob calls it...smoke distribution system)  🤢

Well, the venue is open for smoking much more time than it is open for gambling.

It is funny how you always hear that without the smoking the casino would die a pitiful death, but X still has a casino that thrives.

We sale on Serenade next April unfortunately out of Ft Lauderdale. Wish it would be non smoking!

Smokers use to say if they ban smoking on balconies they’d stop cruising! But they didn’t.

I remember when smoking was everywhere on ship they’d have one non-smoking lounge and it was always empty! Times are changing. Less and less people smoke! Casino will go non smoking .... I for one look forward to it!!

Carnival should follow their example. The smoke in their casinos is so thick that I 've seen their employees wear masks. If they weren't registered in Panama and the Bahamas, I could see employees suing them for health problems.

All Empress cruises have no indoor guest smoking at all?

I'm pretty sure that's correct, at least it was August 18-24.  It could be a sign of progress if this is a precedent for casino smoking not to be re-impemented once a ship leaves countries where it is banned.

Our usual ship is Grandeur.  Usually, right after boarding, there are a number of smokers in the casino getting their "fix" before the muster drill.  And in the mornings they are in there.  Peew!

It's interesting that the smoking ban on airlines came about, in large part, from pressure from the flight attendants union who saw their members developing cancer from the constant exposure to second hand smoke.

Yes, but US airlines are governed by U.S. Laws. Unfortunately, ships are governed by the laws of the country they are registered  in, and they offer a favorable political climate to the cruise lines.

Not sure if it changes with itinerary, but just returned from Ovation to Alaska - no indoor smoking permitted anywhere in the ship, casino included. It was FANTASTIC. There were several outdoor smoking areas.
