dodgestang Posted September 10, 2019 #1 Share Posted September 10, 2019 Here's the setup. I'm already booked on a cruise ti Alaska in a Suite and have Diamond status. I've offered my inlaws that if they front their own airfare, I will pay for their cruise...they always get interior rooms...so I was going to get them a balcony. If I am booking this for them will they 'inherit' any of my perks like easier on/off? How about drink packages....they don't drink so I don't need to get them a drink package but I know at dinner when I order a bottle of wine, my MIL will drink some 😉 How about special dining/gratuities/excursions etc....how 'easy' is it to just get it all managed under my account with basically two reservations made at two separate times? I've cruised enough in the last year...that I 'think' I know the answers to most of these....but just looking for some confirmation bias 😉

As far as embarkation and debarkation, have them tag along with you. If you buy a bottle of wine at dinner it can be shared with all at your table, no package needed. when you make reservations on the cruise planner you can add others from another reservation and you will be charged for them. I would recommend that you have your TA (or RCI if booked directly) cross reference the two reservations for further clarity. Steve

If you are asking referring to taking care of all onboard expenses by yourself, you can do that as part of online check-in.
Rare RCCL Fan Posted September 10, 2019 #4 Share Posted September 10, 2019 Whether you book for them, or pay for them, they don't get any perks and neither do you for buying an extra cabin. When my wife and I got married on Independence we paid for the cabins for 25 of our relatives... all on my one bill. I still got my 14 cruise points for my suite and that's it. lol
dodgestang Posted September 10, 2019 Author #5 Share Posted September 10, 2019 Well that's pretty much what I thought.....so If Serenade treats the Royal Suite the same way Grandeur does....I'm gonna feel just slightly guilty when the concierge walks us onto the ship and straight to our room to relax while they stand in line and wait to board. 😉 😉 I"m sure I'll get over it though
Coralc Posted September 10, 2019 #6 Share Posted September 10, 2019 Split you and your spouse up so that each is booked in a cabin with a parental unit. If you want to upgrade them to a balcony cabin, you will receive the balcony discount on both cabins. You can shuffle staterooms onboard. The parents will not receive C&A perks or the CL, but it will save a little money, and you will receive loyalty gifts for both staterooms.

DrivesLikeMario Posted September 10, 2019 #8 Share Posted September 10, 2019 Most people will split a couple with status up between 2 cabins so they both get some benefits, mostly the balcony C&A Discount if it's combinable with your fare. Once onboard, go to GS and have them change the key cards.

She said yes and met us st check in. After they checked in at their different lines, she escorted all of us on board and up to the Royal Suite so everyone could put their luggage in our room before going to lunch.
dodgestang Posted September 10, 2019 Author #10 Share Posted September 10, 2019 Then I pick up having to either buy 4 drink packages or wait till I am on board to buy drink package for myself and the wife....hmmmm
dodgestang Posted September 10, 2019 Author #11 Share Posted September 10, 2019 They probably couldn't eat in Chops for breakfast with us either. Ugh......it is looking more and more like I might have to spring for a JS for them just to simplify our lives.

JS hardly gets any perks, not like a GS or better.

Rare brillohead Posted September 10, 2019 #14 Share Posted September 10, 2019 If you split up you and spouse to get Diamond discount on the folks' balcony room, one of you won't have suite perks. Best to just get them the balcony and get you the suite and let them fend for themselves for some of the stuff.
Rare John&LaLa Posted September 10, 2019 #15 Share Posted September 10, 2019 Get them an OS. If not, won't you feel guilty using the bidet and knowing they don't have one. 😁

If you are in a Grand Suite or above, remember you have FULL Room Service. You can have your parents into your Suite and have breakfast there. There is no limit (to my knowledge) on a room service order to a Full Suite (Junior Suites don't have free room service). We have done this a few times with friends when we've had a Grand Suite. DH likes the variety in the buffet and the ability to choose as much as he wants so you may not be missing that much.

Then what you need to do is definitely have your parents into your suite and order a great breakfast! We've done that before and it's really nice. You'll have full menu so order up Eggs Benedict for all! And enjoy that Royal Suite!!!
