Disembarking

Yes, but here comes the proverbial BUT:

* Will the ship dock on time, late due to bad weather

* What other cruise ships are in port that day will affect the crowds at the airport

* Is the cruise within Schnengen or some outside ports. Customs/ immigration check

* Which date and day, will affect traffic to airport

* What does your airline recommend when to get to the airport

* How long are the queues at the Check-In counter

* Any strikes planned, Spanish or British

* How long will the security checks be

* Have heard the line for self disembarcation starts forimng before 05:00 AM

* Have you checked the Ports of Call forum (probably a lot more information there)

* Will you get a taxi quick enough or arrange a private transfer before hand

So yes, but you will be worrying the whole cruise "will I or won't I" make the flight. If one or more points from the above list (not a complete list by far) happen, hope plan B jumps into action.

Have a great cruise.

PS. Don't forget the valium.🍻

  • 2 weeks later...

It usually takes over and hour for disembarkation to start after docking.  I think you are cutting it too fine.  Lets say you get off at 9 sharp !! maybe...... then walk to the taxi rank (Barcelona port is huge could take 10 - 15 minutes to get there). You then have to queue to catch a taxi to get to the airport - the ride to the airport (if you are terminal 2 is only 15 minutes).  This can take up to half an hour again depending on how many ships in port.  You can check how many by going to a web site (Whats in port . com).  You are an international flight, you have to check in and bag drop ( usually two hours before flight)  you have to go through passport check and customs.  That all takes time.

Pre-book your taxi for 8.45 / 9am it will the be outside the terminal door or close by in the car park, slightly dearer but saves you waiting for a cab if busy.

Don't forget do not put your cases out night before or you may find then still on the ship.

Inform reception of your early flight time.

So far docking in Barcelona we have been early most times, but as said anything can happen & traffic can be bad at any time.

Thanks for replies,  we will be flying to Scotland do we go through custom control in Barcelona?  I thought custom control would be on entry to Scotland.

Well we have booked a plan B flight as a standby but will try for early flight and keep fingers crossed.
