I raised this with reception on my cruise but to no avail.

Announcements in public spaces are fine but especially on sea days, in cabin announcements are a very unwelcome intrusion.

Too much nannying I'm afraid.

You've hit the nail on the head, "Too much nannying" . Cunard Line has their fair share of elderly and infirm guests, but they managed to cope without constant reassurance via public announcements direct into the cabin. 

One afternoon I thought I'd just have a forty winks siesta, put my head down at 4pm and at 4.05pm the entertainment director made a PA ( direct into the cabin) to advise that there was a misprint in the Today program re the afternoon Tea.

 

"Ladies & Gentlemen, just to advised you that the 'Strawberry Afternoon Tea' as printed in the Today program has now been replaced by a 'French Apple Tea', sorry for the inconvenience"

We thought it strange that, when the announcements were in full flow in the cabin in the morning and we went out to go to brekkie, we couldn't hear them in the corridoor.

Our alarm at home doesn't sound until 8:00am - I certainly don't want to be woken at that time on holiday!  (Unless going on an early excursion of course).  Think Saga isn't for me yet.
