The Mikado Posted September 20, 2019 #28 Share Posted September 20, 2019 For those who've recommended the casino, how do you stand the smoking? We couldn't stand to go to the front desk on the Grand because of the smoke wafting out of the casino next door.

I was talking about the extra "sea days" that the OP would have when they stayed aboard the ship at ports of call. That type of sea day is great for enjoying the ship without the crowds. I should have specified.

You can move around like Royalty while everyone is in port.
LoriPhil Posted September 20, 2019 #31 Share Posted September 20, 2019 Yes - staying onboard when docked at a familiar port is one of our favorite days on a cruise!

greenie082756 Posted September 20, 2019 #33 Share Posted September 20, 2019 In the afternoon, we grab a lounger facing out to the ocean by the pool. I get a Mejor margarita and sip on it while listening to my music looking @ the waves. Then once the drink relaxes me, I take a nap. Its got to be one of the best naps I ever get! I think a few folks had an issue with the fact that the last 8 days in a row are sea days but it didn't bother us in the least. We, too love sea days. Where we get fried is on very port-intensive itineraries. Others seem to love the frenetic pace of those cruises but they wear us out.
satxdiver Posted September 20, 2019 #35 Share Posted September 20, 2019 We stay aboard the ship when visiting a port we have been to many times. The ship is virtually empty so you can go anywhere on the ship sans crowds. The HC/WFM will be empty making it a pleasurable experience. Not being beach people stops at Princess Cay is an excellent "sea day". We love sea days both the real variety and port "sea days" as we are completely free to do what we want. Successive port days where we are going on excursions is extremely tiring so we prefer port days interspersed with sea days for resting.

I must admit that there is a huge advantage to the stinky casinos on Princess. There is no way I will spend time in those areas...so I never lose a penny gambling. Rare sprint180 Posted September 21, 2019 #38 Share Posted September 21, 2019 Well, I don't drink and I don't read on a cruise yet I still find plenty to do. I just don't know what that is. 2
pris993 Posted September 21, 2019 #39 Share Posted September 21, 2019 We now ship ports on some cruises... we sleep in, enjoy a quiet breakfast after many have left the ship, enjoy empty pools, walk, watch movies, check out the port with binoculars, enjoy our balcony... have lunch on the balcony order room service.

FloaterBoat Posted September 21, 2019 #43 Share Posted September 21, 2019 We made a port sea day last cruise in Corfu Greece....wasn't on purpose tho....we slept like dead bodies through our alarms. Like I said, we love port intensive itineraries....but it comes at a cost lolll. The fatigue catches you near the end of the series of 6-7 in a row. Lol..just so happened to hit us on Corfu. We missed our excursion and everything lol. Slept til dinner time lol. 5ish. We Were finally well rested tho! So the next 4 Greek ports, we were up and ready to see the world.. Quite a few ports from that sailing is on our Maiden Voyage sailing of the Enchanted next summer, including Corfu, so we're definitely focusing on exploring the port next time, finally lol

We found the smoke to be so thick by the Capt hosts deck it was almost all we could do just ask our question & leave. I pity the poor host who has to be there for her required hours. She kept closing the door to keep the smoke away but it would only open a few minutes later.

If I recall right, ship selected side with the smallest doorway... probably better than other side which has wider doorway and would allow more smoke to come out... short of not allowing smoking... It is about money.... suspect gamblers smoke?? I use to smoke quit years ago... there is a big difference between the two sides... I don't gamble much but definitely do on the less smoke side. If I recall correctly the indoor cigar lounge is located on one side & that's where most of the smoke comes from since they leave the door open most times trying to get ventilation. pris993 Posted September 21, 2019 #49 Share Posted September 21, 2019 Looks like you know better than I, don't spend enough time in casino to know about the door to the cigar lounge.... if true that is too bad.

That may be but we were smelling cigarette smoke. Cigar smoke, while still annoying, is not as bad as cigarettes. I’m not like some who think entire ships should be smoke-free (although I’d personally like it) but it just seems to me more people might use the casino if they were more pleasant to visit just the same as most of the rest of the public spaces.
