First time on Viking Drinks question

Do people with the SS package use a card for their drinks?

 

IME most times you are just asked your cabin number and when they go to ring up the drink they see you have the package there

 

AND

 

say you go to Explorer every night for a b4 dinner drink .... IME they learn faces and names, and drink of preference FAST and know if you are 'on the package' by the second day!

We had the same experience most of the time as well - explorers lounge & living room bar. In the restaurant (we requested the same waiter:) he was full of great suggestions of wines for our meals. Viking makes it very easy. 

 

Need to get another voyage on the books!

Can confirm the bars you use often will know in 1-2 days what you drink,whether you have the package and your cabin number. You never have to present your card. At other outlets you just give your room number. Your picture pops up on their screen so strangers can’t use your account. They also call you by name, which is nice.

We’ve been to one wine and one bourbon tasting thus far - SSBP covered both. Next is premium whites - high end wines only sold by the bottle - which will cost $.

Sommelier Maksym is excellent!! 🍷🥂🥃

No, you just give your room number.  If you frequent the same bar, they quickly remember you.  Same with the sommelier in The Restaurant for wine.  On our cruise they used different types of wine glasses for those with the SSP in the sit down restaurants.

They call them "premium" wines and they can be purchased by the glass if you don't have the SSP.

 

For some folks, it still may be cheaper to buy the premium wine by the glass or even by the bottle than to buy the drinks package.

That's absolutely true if one person in a couple is a light drinker, or doesn't drink.  The VOC requirement that all persons in a cabin must purchase the SSP adds considerably to the cost.

I am big on simplifying, too. I don't want to be distracted from vacation activities by "adult beverage calculus!"
