Most surprising thing seen on a cruise

I guess I have finally cruised enough to finally see something that surprised me.  A mother entered her small boy in the Hairy Chest contest.  When each man danced his way up the center to stand in front of the pool, she carried her son.  He obviously DID NOT want to do this and kept covering his face. WTH?  First of all, why would they allow a child, let alone any boy under the age of 18, enter that contest???  Secondly, what mother would want her small child to dance in an obviously adult hairy chest contest?

For those who haven't seen the contest, the selected contestants dirty dance in front of three women judges.  That isn't appropriate for any boy, let alone a child under the age of 6.  I think it was that same mother who pushed her young daughter to be selected for a short dance-off contest before the Lip Sync show.  This little girl did not want to do it and just stood there.  I feel so sorry for children whose parents do stuff like that.  The child in the Hairy Chest contest is the craziest thing I have seen on a cruise ship.  Bad parenting at its finest.

Most surprising? Dude getting hauled to brig after what best would be described as harassing a woman. 

 

Second wouuld be a fistfight. 

 

Third was from my first cruise, a guest really giving wait staff in buffet a hard time to the point the fellas boss had to get involved. 

 

I was naive but I used to think none of that would ever happen on a glamorous international cruise. The sweet bird of youth!

Good surprise - An engagement with a large family watching.  So sweet!

 

Bad surprise - Kid sticking his mouth under the ice cream machine and dispensing ice cream directly into his mouth.

It was on the cruise I took on the Breeze earlier this month.  It was crazy.  What's so funny is that the entire cruise was awesome and the majority of the passengers were very low key and relaxed. It was kind of an older crowd in general.  But this woman enters her little boy in that contest.  I could not believe that she did it and that nobody stopped her.

Valentine's day in the steak house.  A proposal and she was mad he did it in front of a bunch of strangers.  She refused to answer.  Awkward!!

I was on the Breeze in Feb and we had a guy that had a blow up doll with a bikini riding behind him on his mobility scooter. I took a picture because it was so hilarious. Then, at Port he was swimming with her at the same beach club that we went to. 🤣

A couple attacked another couple in the nightclub on Freedom. Security stopped it pretty quick but yeah. It happened a few feet from me.

I've cruised with Schwartz before on the breeze, I thought he was better than that.

We were sitting at a table on the side of the Lido Deck on the Dream.  There was a table next to us that had three or four teen aged boys sitting at it.  We had remarked that their table was full of plates with half eaten food on them and they kept going back for more.

 

Their Mother showed up with a younger boy in tow.  She started screaming at the boys for ignoring the younger one.  One of them said something to her and she hauled off and started smacking him across the head as hard as she could.  He started fighting back and that made her even madder.  By then, the plates were flying around and it caught the attention of a worker who came over to her politely told her to knock it off.  She grabbed a hold on the kid and marched him off with the other ones in tow.  Never saw any of them again.

 

For our first cruise on the Destiny we went to the pool on the Lido Deck and it was roped off.  Soon a photographer showed up and started setting up his camera equipment.  Then this scrawny model showed up  dressed in a skimpy bathing suit, a huge hat and high heels.  She stood on the edge of the pool and posed while the photographer shot pictures of her.  The whole thing was so phony looking that everybody was laughing at it.

I saw people being nice to each other. Very surprising (and refreshing) in this day and age.

We were on the Freedom out of Fort Lauderdale about 5 years ago. Big grandmaw, just a "little" over weight (I have no room to talk, not making fun) riding her little scooter around the ship. One night by the casino bar when the band was playing, she decided to reminisce back to her first career. She pole danced with the BIG pole in the middle the area. Her jewlery and clothes were starting to fly different directions. Luckily, the song changed, she gathered her attire, got back on her scooter and off she went.

A lady died next to us...

 

We were on the Dream a few years ago out of New Orleans, second day of cruise. We were on the smoking deck 11 watching a movie. Next to us at the table near the seaside railing, was an older lady on Oxygen, smoking away, fell off the chair, screaming of her family ensued, crew came rapidly, got all others out of the section, sheeted the area up, finally took her out in an hour or so. Anyhow, next day, her companion and family were partying on the same deck. Yes, she did pass away, did not leave ship at the next port, but stayed and got off back in New Orleans.

This is a mundane post. Not about people or their actions. Growing up out in the country of North Texas I had not seen blue water before. All I had ever seen was brown water in our stock tanks(small little lakes dug all over our ranch for watering our horses and cattle ), or the greenish/brownish waters around Galveston. I was mesmerised by the beauty of the cobalt blue of the water. I think that was the reason we spent a lot of time on our balcony as we did.

On the same Freedom trip mentioned above, someone was on the long deck outside of guest services leaning all over the railing taking pictures of the ships spray coming up. The wooden rail came loose and the person was almost a goner. I don't know how he caught himself, but he did. He ran and told guest services that he almost fell over. They went running and roped the area off for the cruise.

Too bad she didn't spin around the pole on her scooter. Now that would've been hilarious!

Depending on a few circumstances, cruise lines can keep the body in the morgue until they return to their home port. For most Caribbean cruises, they'll leave the body onboard until they return to the U.S. So if that was the case, it's understandable as to why the family stayed onboard. I, however, would've been quite a bit more somber afterwards, but that's just me.

Nice post. 🙂 I grew up in the land-locked Midwest and didn't see the ocean until I was 17. I couldn't believe how vast it was. Up until then, the only think I'd ever seen that could compare was a "sea" of corn fields. LOL We took our boy to the ocean for his first time when he was 10. You couldn't see the ocean or the beach from the parking lot, there was sort of a berm in between. We had to climb up a set of steps to the top of a short bridge. I remember making a point not to look out at the ocean myself, but to watch his reaction when we got to the top of the steps. The wondrous expression on his face makes me smile to this day every time I think about it. As adults, we often lose that sense of wonder, but it's something I'll hold onto for as long as I can.

This amazed me too!
I also grew up in North Texas and had the exact same experience with water colors at the lakes and beaches from Galveston to SPI.
Growing up and going to Six Flags, I used to marvel at how beautiful the color was of the water in the water features.
It was this same shade of blue you show here.
I thought how unreal it looked and would laugh that they would paint it that color, since all the beaches and lakes I had been to the water had been a muddy brown color. 

When we took our first cruise to Nassau, I was shocked. It was the most beautiful water I had ever seen.
Although now I think the water at Grand Cayman holds that spot.

Lol. She was the star of the ship the rest of the cruise. She enjoyed herself for sure. But the crowd surely wasn't expecting the show!

Same here.  It didn't look real to me.  It reminded me of the dyed water you see at 6 Flags.
