How to avoid spending 6 hours on the ship in Moorea

Any advice is appreciated.

We have a morning tour which will either return us to the tender dock at noon or drop us off at Tipaniers hotel for lunch and to enjoy the beach.  I think it would be a shame to go back onboard when we don’t sail until 6 pm, but DH worries that we won’t be able to get a cab back to the ship because the island will be overwhelmed by our fellow passengers.  I think it would be nice to spend few hours at the beach. The hotel appears to be a 10 minute ride from the harbor.

Does anyone have experience with this situation or have a recommendation for something else we could do after our morning tour?

What ship will you be arriving on? How many fellow passengers to be concerned about clogging taxi service? We've been on Windstar, PG, and Oceania- Windstar the smallest at 140 passengers, and Oceania being the largest at 650, and dock was fairly crowded with Oceania. Your husband is probably right about taxi availability if the ship is bigger.

But you can reserve a ride in advance. We used Torea Transport taxi service when we were in Moorea last December to take us to the Hilton and back. It was great- they picked us up right at the dock right on time and we scheduled a time with our driver for pickup. Perfectly timely. If you email they can set up a time to pick you up at the hotel, take you to a beach and then back later to the ship. Or just from the beach to the ship.

If you aren't doing snorkeling in the morning they also have a circle island tour, and a 4WD island tour that are well rated. If you are snorkeling or doing a water related activity just curious who it is with?

Albert's is another good choice but we got the best price from Torea Transport.
