jparker10508 Posted October 2, 2019 #1 Share Posted October 2, 2019 I know there can be no more balloons offered by Princess so I will do something myself. We will be celebrating a 50th wedding anniversary with close friends and I want to do something special on the outside of their door. Can anyone tell me if I would be able to tape a banner from one side to the other without causing damage to the walls. (Like from the ceiling part just outside the walkway) I know not to use those colorful jelly like adhesive stickers on any part of the door or walls as they leave marks. And can you guess how wide the opening would be so I can make a banner to fit and is the door metal so that something can hang from a magnet? EDDY0827 Posted October 2, 2019 #2 Share Posted October 2, 2019 Tape is frowned upon, it often doesn't come off easily or cleanly. Use magnets or Command hooks. They don't leave any residue behind.
skynight Posted October 2, 2019 #3 Share Posted October 2, 2019 Door opening is 22 inches. About 18 inches is available on the door itself. Magnets are the way to go. If you mention the anniversary in the cruise information the cabin steward will decorate with a Happy Anniversary poster.

Best to use magnets or hooks, command strips etc. There was a recent photo posted of the damage on a cabin door from those jelly type stickers. The pattern and colors were left on the door after they were removed. 🙁

franktown Posted October 2, 2019 #6 Share Posted October 2, 2019 As mentioned by skynight if you check on your cruise personalizer that you are celebrating your anniversary the cabin steward will put up a Happy Anniversary poster.
JF - retired RRT Posted October 2, 2019 #7 Share Posted October 2, 2019 This thread just made me wonder...the steward uses (used) tape for the balloons and the poster. Is it a special tape? Maybe the OP could get some tape from the steward.

We got a poster from our steward (see picture) and a happy anniversary card as our anniversary took place during the cruise.

As another possibility for decoration...and I don’t know if it will even work but may be worth a chance... I’m guessing since you’re traveling with the other couple your bookings are linked and maybe y’all have cabins next door or near one another. So maybe you can ask their cabin steward when s/he is in their cabin if you can pop in at the same time to put up a banner on the wall and/or twirly things from the ceiling with magnets; of course, you would have previously purchased these items and brought them on board with you. You wouldn’t be asking the steward to put them up and you wouldn’t want to get in the way but someone else needs to be in the cabin as your “escort”. If the steward says ‘no’, which is a good possibility, say you totally understand then follow up by asking if there is someone who could help you make this happen. Maybe the supervisor or someone else will be able to assist you. Be sure to say the steward followed proper protocol and that you think the steward is marvelous (you are taking the request to a higher level only to see if you can be escorted into the cabin to put up the decorations not to get the steward in trouble; I’m being clear on this in hopes of eliminating/reducing follow up posts stating this can’t be done as the steward will get in trouble no matter what). You can also the M&G for your Roll Call because it’s possible the head of housekeeping or hotel (if the person coordinating the M&G invites senior officers and staff) may attend and you can ask them if the secretive decorating request (with someone supervising you being in their cabin) can be made possible. Whatever happens, I know you and your friends will have a wonderful time celebrating this great occasion!! Since they have guidelines for these types of things this request would probably put Stewart on the spot. IMO either purchase the decorations and bring them or order a package. I did try to be clear that the steward would likely say ‘no’ and that there are possibly ways to be able to still get the cabin decorated and NOT get the steward in trouble. I didn’t mention the decoration packages offered by Princess as I thought OP might know about them and for the price of the package, OP could treat the couple to specialty dining instead. A banner and some ceiling twirly things can be pre-purchased by OP for very little money, whether for room or door. But I am glad you mentioned the package just in case OP didn’t know about it.

The only time I had a problem with glue residue was when I left it in place for a few months but even that was easily removed with a little solvent.
