Rio carnival

Hi anyone know the best place to get to , to watch the Rio carnival we are going next year and wondered if anyone had any tips on where to go for sights and safety

My husband went many years ago and I haven't been so take that for what it's worth.  While there are neighborhood celebrations the event itself is in the Sambadrome and you have to have tickets.  Here's a general site and you can work from there.

 Carnival  is extremely organised and goes like clockwork but is quite confusing if you don't understand how it works.

 

We bought tickets and transport from and to the cruise port from Marcel. Things start very late - around ten pm or so when we were there, and it goes on till around three or four in the morning or later. There are lulls between each performance and buses leave then so you can go back to the ship before the end if you wish. 

Only licensed  for Carnival vehicles can go anywhere near the venue and although there were tons of security inside the Sambadome, it is not the safest part of the city to wander around alone at night.

Based on my research on Cruise Critic we booked tickets including transfers from ship to Sambadrome with DO BRAZIL RIGHT. Marcelo Zahar has a very good website and can provide you with all the necessary information. If needed you can also reach him on his US phone and he speaks English.
