Which ports in Viking's Alaska cruises are tendered?

Tender:  Yes / No

Valdez:

Icy Straight Point:

Skagway:

Juneau:

Sitka:

Ketchikan:

Are some ports definite tender ports,  and in others, does it depend on what other ships are in port?

It depends on how many other ships are in port. I used the CLIA Alaska site to check, but there are others. We tendered in Ketchikan - five ships that day. (We did the Totem Park, which was fine, but decided not to explore the town afterward because it was packed). In Icy Strait, we also tendered; the only other one got the dock.

We booked this cruise for July 2021 and our confirmation from Viking shows all of them as tender ports.

As Kellybc pointed out it really comes down to how many other ships are in port since some of the ports, like Icy Strait Point are limited to one ship at their dock. If you are looking at a sailing in 2020 you can probably determine how many other ships are in port, but for 2021 everyone has yet to release their schedules to the public yet.

We did a similar cruise in 2018 via Celebrity that stopped in the same ports, minus Valdez and Sitka, and we were lucky enough to dock everywhere. Based on my research for that trip it does seem like priority is given to the lines that have been sailing in Alaska for years. The operation Princess has there was impressive to see since they have their own lodges, buses, train cars on the Alaska railroad and ships. While not for us, I can see why people go that route.
