Any direct flights from US to Venice Italy?

Researching options for flights for cruise in October 2020.  Are there any direct flights from Florida, Chicago, or any U.S. cities to Venice Italy?

United does Newark to Venice. And back. But not year around. October might be out of season.

You do realize that "direct" does not mean the same as "non-stop"?

 

You could easily have a "direct" flight that has both stops as well as an equipment change.  In fact, there are some Southwest "direct" flights that have over six segments.

 

Many airlines have "direct" flights to foreign destinations where there is a domestic tag that allows for marketing a "direct" flight while still changing equipment at the gateway.

 

As for your question...if you are looking for a non-stop from the USA,  United has seasonal service from Newark, American has seasonal service from Philadelphia and Chicago, and Delta has seasonal service from JFK and Atlanta.  None have year round service.

Air Canada has flights from Toronto but don’t know it is seasonal or not

It's seasonal. And note it's on Air Canada Rouge, so a different product from "regular" Air Canada. May not matter to OP, but worth being aware of. Air Transat also does a seasonal YYZ-VCE.

AA's VCE service runs shockingly late in to the year, in my opinion. It looks like it ends in the next 10-12 days for the season, but it's still going right now, in mid-October (both ORD and PHL). I'm not sure about their 2020 schedule plans, though.

One other item to the OP:  Because many cruisers want that non-stop, the pricing for it on "cruise days" can be significantly higher than if you take a connection in Europe.  One thing to consider.

Totally agree with this. Was monitoring the VCE-EWR route to get us back to SFO next June. VCE-MUC-SFO turned out cheaper and easier.

Firstly as has already been pointed out,  Direct does not mean non-stop.  It's any flight with the same flight number (that may make any number of stops along the way).

 

As for flights, go to Wikipedia, search for "Venice Airport", and there's a section for "airlines and destinations" which will answer your question.  In a nutshell (north American carriers)

Air Canada Rouge: (Seasonal) Montréal–Trudeau, Toronto–Pearson
Air Transat: (Seasonal) Montréal–Trudeau, Toronto–Pearson
American Airlines: (Seasonal) Chicago–O'Hare, Philadelphia

I think you're making a huge mistake wanting a non-stop.  if you misconnect onto that one non-stop flight per day, there are limited alternatives.  If you fly to a major European hub (London, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam), there are many many options to get from there to VCE.

 

Lastly, it's always worth considering alternative airports that may be less expensive, such as Milan(MXP), where it's a pleasant rail journey to Venice.  There are even direct trains from Rome's Fumicino airport to Venice now. They do take 4h27m, and stop at Rome, Florence, Bologna, Padova and into Venice.

Thanks for your responses and advice.  Finally decided to take Queen Mary 2 to London from NY and then fly from London to Venice prior to embarkation for Venice to Tampa cruise on HA, instead of searching for one way, non-stop flights to Venice.

Again, you should probably think through all your options.  The least amount of transfers required in this avoids London altogether.

 

- The QM2 goes to Southampton, not London

- FlyBE fly from the SOUTHAMPTON airport to Verona, not far from Venice

Thanks Scottbee for your recommendations.  I did mean Southampton instead of London.l Our plans have changed to include increasing our travel days by taking the 7 day trans Atlantic crossing from New York to Southampton and stay two nights in London and then fly to Venice 2 days prior to embarking on the Venice to Tampa cruise.  Since the cost of one way first class flights is almost equal to the cost of the trans Atlantic crossing,, I have concluded that we will get more “bang for the buck” by opting to take the Queen Martin 2 across the pond  plus take in some additional sights.

Friends recently flew from JFK to Milan on Emirates, and noted that the plane continues on to Dubai and that it was the same flight number as the prior leg to Milan....because JFK to DBX is a direct flight but non a nonstop flight.

Emirates has more of this.  From JFK, they have three direct flights to DXB, but only two are non-stop.  And the third is the "direct" stopping in Milan.  They do the similar from EWR - their "direct" flight to DXB stops in Athens along the way.

it can be worse than that.  There are some flights with the same flight number (hence direct) that involve a change of plane.  I can't find a good example at the moment; but they do exist.

Lots of flights in and out of international gateways are "tags" of overseas flights on DL, AA and UA.  This gives more "direct" options to sell through GDS systems.  The term of art for this is "change of gauge".

Yes, Philly to Venice...…...I just did it.  (I had to get to Philly) but if you live in that area, the flight leaves about 7pm and arrives around 9:00am. I flew on American.
