Hello, taking a TA in April 2020 Celebrity Reflection. Never was one to bother with the internet but thought I may give it a try this 15 day cruise. I read that to save money just purchase one device and  program and then there's and adapter you can buy for around $40 that allows you to hook up several other devices to this adapter and you be on-line through the first device. Has anyone more info or tried this before. TIA

I have no idea bout the technology, but one of my few critisisms of Celebrity was the extortionate cost of WIFI on board.

 

It really is ridiculously priced.

As it is with many cruise lines relative to home based costs.  Another criticism with at sea wifi is that it is generally slow compared to home based wifi. (RCI, for one, has improved their speed recently).

 

However, unless it is part of a booking package we rarely use wifi on a cruise so to us it doesn't matter.

Devices like the "hoo too" described in the replies are meant to (amongst other things) turn a wired connection (unavailable in most cruise ship cabins) into a wifi router. Per the manufacturer:  Wireless router: instantly convert a wired network to wireless network. And bridge and extend Wi-Fi, share internet securely with others (but it's not a hotspot and do not support VPN).

 

In essence then, there remains the issue of account authentication. It would be highly unusual for a cruise line to have not figured out how to block "piggybacking."

 

OP: There are other cruise lines (e.g., some premium/luxury ones) that provide at least one unlimited internet account at no extra charge.

 

Of course, when comparing cabin costs between industry segments, a more accurate measure would be the "net daily rate" of ALL required costa and your optionally chosen "extras." For example, the seemingly "more expensive" cabin cost of a "premium" cruise line may usually include airfare (or credit), unlimited internet account, all non-alcoholic beverages, unlimited specialty restaurants and a selection from among other perks like booze or tours or SBC.

 

Do the REAL math.
